They are equally immoral. Note that either option requires force to be implemented on people who have committed no wrong.

I didn't say that. What I said was that the veterans health care system would no longer be needed because everyone would have equal health care and the ability to choose his/her own doctor....even the vets. Just like everyone else. We all get the same. That's what universal health care is. Active military, of course, might have a different program because health care is actually a part of the military just like everything else. Might. I guess.

I unfortunately don't have health insurance. I turned 21, was taken off my mom's plan, and I don't have enough money to pay for a decent plan that I know of. I just graduated from college this past May. Hence the name. So I wouldn't mind the public option, but unless it's passed, i'm screwed. So any plan at this point would be welcomed.

Do yall know of any cheap, but decent plans I can look into? I will only be making around $1600 before taxes and things but I want some kind of coverage. I live in South Carolina.

NewGrad2009,

I would suggest that you contact some local physicians in your area. Ask them what arrangement that you can make to pay cash for any services that you might need. You will find the cost is much lower than what the current government/business collusion mandates them to charge for "insured" patients. For you to waste large sums of money paying for comprehensive coverage is just not rational. If you do look for a "plan" at your age, I would simply advise you to look only at plans that are more like "catastrophic" insurance. Unless you are chronically ill, there is no reason for you to spend money to subsidize the perpetually "sick" pool that has destroyed the system.

well, i mainly need basic things. like a check up at the doctor. or going to a gynocologist sometimes. an easy way to pay for my contacts, etc.

but i will look into that. it just sucks because my mom finally got hit by the recession it seems like, so i have to look for a way to stretch out my $1200 take home into food, rent, health insurance, gas, and savings. Something I didn't think i'd have to do for another few months at least.

Solutions, please? The math seems to point to insolvency, which helps no one in the end.
Actually, the math doesnt point to any such thing. If you werent aware, the US ALREADY spends more money per person then the next closest country by almost double, yet only has mediocre results to show for it.

If correctly administered, the US would actually SAVE money over the current system. Big pharm and big insurance may be completely destroyed as a result, but they are nothing but corporate welfare leeches any how. Hospitals wouldnt be able to charge $10 for an aspirin either, but then again, they are usuary.

Basically, we would redistribute the current profits of big pharm, private insurance, and the medical conglomerates, in to tax savings. Very simple.

While I like single-payer, I also like the German health care system.
It's a lot like our "system" except the sickness funds (kind of like health insurance companies) are not allowed to make a profit and this keeps costs down. They only exist to pay claims. They have to accept everyone who wants to join their fund. Employees and employers contribute to the monthly premium and if someone is laid off, the government pays the premium while the worker looks for a job.

Too bad there is only two bills in Congress that can seriously make a difference in this country: cut costs and cover everyone. H.R. 676. in the House/S. 703 in the Senate
Well, if they cannot make a profit, how will they improve services, replace worn or outdated equipment? Sounds like a recipe for stagnation, with no motivating factor to improve, innovate or grow.

I have looked at plans more suited at your age group for South Carolina, obviously without getting actual quotes because a lot of personal info is needed, but even blue cross offers policies for just over a 100 dollars a month for young healthy people such as yourself. Again, if you are like the droolers who don't want to spend more than 5 dollars per visit you will pay through the nose. You will save a lot of money over your lifetime by buying only insurance to cover what you absolutely cannot afford. Trying to make every visit or prescription "cheap" costs you far more over your lifetime in "wasted" high premiums. Unless you plan to go to the doctor every time you get a scrape or have a headache go for catastrophic type coverage...

SINGLE PAYER absolves the employer of any responsibility and makes our industry more competitive. Public Option does not
