Can't argue with this.
The poll numbers are sliding due to this and other topics so it's a political smokescreen.

It's not unreasonable to give them more time to keep their promises but if nothing is done in another year the poll numbers will slip further as moderates that supported Obama become disheatened. Then again, they might pass something....hard to say.

Reid's popularity sucks. Nationwide it's 14%. In his state it's 38%. No name contenders for his office are beating him in the polls by 10%. People say stupid stuff when they're desperate. Reid just says stupid stuff all the time.

I agree that he wants at least a few Republican votes so the claim of "bipartisan" support can be made. The smears and accusations that Republicans have offered nothing is just part of the political mud-slinging game he is playing.
So there are democrats not supporting it.
Yet reid blames the republicans. he ha sthe votes and the power he should act like a leader

I'm a bit of a cynic. I think a lot of senators pushing the current health care plan know we can't afford it as a nation, but want to look good for their leftist voter base. I suspect they are secretly hoping that this bill will die before it can be voted on. That way they can blame the Republicans for killing it to their base, but not suffer the disaster of uncontrolled debt growth that will come with it.

He knows that a bill will be passed! He also knows that bill will NOT be as effective as it could be because there will likely be little Conservative input to its stucture. His point is, correctly, the GOP's tact is degrading the process. A bill this massive and has such impact on all Americans lives, needs to be done with cooperative and coordinated legislative action. He is mad because that is not happening for purely political reasons, and Americans cannot afford that.

Bob,

I thought everything the conservatives offered was disregarded by Reid? Have you seen any evidence that Reid was welcoming conservative opinion?

It's called deflection. Keep saying it's the Republican's fault, not the fault of the entire Congress to come together. This is what the masses will remember next year for mid term elections..everything failed was due to "the Republican's fault".

They have not voted in one Amendment lead by republicans. They did not make the bill with Republican input. They can pass it if they want.

Ben Nelson from Nebraska is more centrist than left and he represents a pretty conservative state. Joe Lieberman has gone on record as saying he will not support any bill with a public option. I know about Nelson because I live in Nebraska.

Reid wants to have the public believe that Republicans have done nothing but obstruct and that isn't true. He also wants the public to believe that Republicans have not brought any proposals to the table. That isn't true either. Republicans have submitted their own plans but the Democrats refuse to consider any of them. Several amendments have also been offered by Republicans but none have passed.

Here is a link to the Republican proposals for health care reform.

Yes!
GOP Objects To Putting Health Care Amendments Online

It seems the Repubs do not want anybody to see what amendments are proposed. Reid wanted them to be posted on the Senate web site. The GOP objected, citing "trust problems"? Could it possibly be that the GOP does not want the public to see what things they actually are proposing?
I doubt that they are not making proposals, it's just what they are proposing that they do not want to be generally seen. Why? Are their proposals so inane and useless, that Reid feels justified in saying the GOP is not engaging with a genuine effort? I don't know, it would be nice so see what has been offered for consideration.
