The questions still remain... Why didn't Obama nominate Volcker? Why are we stuck with Bernanke?
Could be that he chose Bernanke because Bernanke is already completely immersed in everything that is going on... and, it would take someone else a while to get "up to speed"?
This economic season has lasted a long time already. Can we afford more time for someone new to come in and figure everything out?
It seems that the Republicans think that time is on their side this year -- at the cost of the American people.
How much longer our country afford for this recession to last?
It is really because they just want to oppose; not create policy, ideas, or even arguments. Unless they are in charge when things are happening, while these things are crafted by their own members, the only answer is no. It's partisan insanity, and they have a number of constituents that are fine with that even if things go down the tubes because of it.
Just look how many people pulled their kids out of public schools entirely when Obama said that education was the key to success.

Volcker has already been a Fed Chairman. Plus, he seems to have a much better grasp of what needs to be done than does Bernanke. Bernanke's made many mistakes. Why keep him?

Good question. Too bad Obama has already wasted a year trying to pursue his health care and cap-and-trade agendas instead of focusing on the economy and the millions of lost jobs.

Once again, a certain poster is using a triple combo of #'s 2-4 to derail the thread.

Correction: based on actions in another thread of mine, consenting to remain uninformed it is.
But this is the point of the thread for those that need it to be spelled out for them.

Paul Volcker is economic titan from the Regan era that is widely credited with reducing double digit inflation to under 4%.
The fact that he is on President Obama's team shows how non-ideologically dogmatic Obama is on working with people who offer SOLUTIONS.
At the Tea Party convention, Mrs. Palin mentioned Reagan as one of the right wing's greats.
Volcker has a set of proposals, known as the Volcker Rules that Obama has been pushing to implement.
One would think given Volcker's experience and record, more Republicans would be at least willing work on implementing at least some of the proposals. Has this Reagan era great even been interviewed on Limbaugh, Beck or any Fox News affiliate?
If this is not so, given the high prestige of Reagan among the current crop of right wingers, this is somewhat perplexing, IF they are indeed truly about SOLUTIONS AND PROBLEM SOLVING.

If that was posted out of the blue, I'd agree with you. But that statement was in response to another poster in this thread. Is this not a fluid debate?
I am not a Republican, but must say that both the Republicans and the Democrats in power "are not about finding solutions and problem solving."
However, we have had a Democrat president and a Democrat-controlled Congress for a year, and they have not passed not one meaningful bill. Yes, they have managed to fill their coffers, and their friend's.
They bailed-out AIG, Golden Sacks, and their big bonuses continue. Pelosi and other members of Congress complain about the GM executives flying corporate jets, but she turns around and spends $millions on military G5 flying hours for herself, her family, and friends. Not even that, but some of these friends demand reimbursements from the government for the food and liquors they consume inflight
ermmm, AIG was not bailed out by the Obama Administration:
