There are many people whose lives are not as valuable as a barnacle, let alone an Orca.
First example that comes to mind is the guy who just threw his 3-month-old daughter off a bridge into the Raritan River here in Jersey because he was mad at the mother.
As a matter of fact, I think it would be quite fitting to give him to this Orca for a toy.
I absolutely agree, there are so many humans that would do the world a favor if they died. If I had a dog and were forced in some theoretical scenario to decide between him/her and, say, a child abuser, rapist, wife beater, racist, etc., guess whom I would pick to live
I hope they will leave that wonderful orca alone. It did nothing unusual for its species, so why punish it for being itself? Just because it does not fit into our naive pet image?
A whale has no job, it has an instinct. This Orca seems to have a instinct to use humans as playthings before they die. He will seek out humans if released to the wild. This whale should be put down.
There has actually never been a reported case of a killer whale actually killing a human being in the wild. All the reported deaths due to killer whales have been the result of whales in captivity. For one thing, killer whales don't frequent areas close to shore like sharks do... People aren't swimming in the middle of Puget Sound where orcas are. And there isn't any proof that an orca would find it neccesary to hunt a human swimmer to begin with...
There is no evidence to suggest that a released orca would somehow stalk human beings and drag them to their death---this is more along the lines of the plot of a bad horror film. Kind of like Jaws IV: the Revenge...
Well, we'll have to agree to disagree then. I have been involved with animal husbandry and conservation nearly my entire life and I absolutely do not agree with what your assumption is.
Yes, some places are only in it for profit...but the vast majority are in it for conservation.
You are obviously biased. Killer Whales need no conservancy. They are kept mainly for our amusement. If we want to observe normal KW behavior then it is us who should head out to the open sea and observe them in situ. Same with Big Game. Zoo's don't come close to being natural environments. They may have improved in the last decade but I still won't go to any.

Killer Whales live in the open sea. When were you last out there? He was captured through no fault of his own and forced to live in captivity. The response to his actions should not be his death but his release. He is not human, we have no jurisdiction over him. That Genesis stuff? Allegorical fable.

The trainer was not in the water with him, she was grabbed and pulled in.
One other incident; a man hid out in the park and went into the whale's enclosure. No one knows if he fell in and drowned due to hyperthermia or if the whale had a part.
He had a bite mark around his hip and his shorts were missing, so obviously the whale was "playing" with him.
There was another incident in which he killed a 20 year old woman at Sealand of the Pacific near Victoria, British Columbia. This whale apparently doesn't know its own strength.
Unfortunately for the Sea World trainer, the third time was not the charm.
Do you think Sea World will kill the orca since this was not the first time he killed a human?
I hope they don't. It's so ridiculous that humans punish animals thinking that'll show the other animals it committed a crime.
It should be released into the wild.
