Why should I, as an individual, be saddened by this case?
It simply undermines hate crime legislation. This is not what hate crime legislation was meant for. When you use hate crime legislation for anything and everything, you will lose support for it. And that's not what I want, and I guess that's not you're goal, either. It's supposed to be used for real hate crime.
