This is just stupid and should be dealt with by simple "Community Service" for these two Ex- Naval Cadets.

Wondering when he calls you a "bigot" for having this view.

I'm certainly not trying to reduce slavery to a mere footnote in history; not by any means. Kids in college think they know everything in the world. Then they get a little bit older and they realize that so much of what they thought they knew was and is wrong. A person who finds humor in slavery, the Holocaust, or this incident with the cotton is at the very least not ready for the real world. Maybe a person like that will come around at some point, or maybe not. Some people you just can't ever reach.

My hatred for the Holocaust and slavery is equal. I only stated the opinion that they are not on the same level where tragedies are concerned (again, just my personal opinion); one took things to a more extreme level as people were gassed and baked alive. That does not make slavery any less of a disgrace than it was, and again people must always be educated about that. Whether or not they choose to listen is up to them. Some of those who don't will end up like the people who did this nonsense with the cotton.

Some people you can reach, some people you can't, and eventually some will commit terrible acts and be punished for them.

Edit: Changed the word most to least. Now it should hopefully actually make sense...

Absolutely. I agree 100%.

You know that these two boys didn't throw the cotton balls in front of the black center to recreate a nativity scene. They did it to remind black students of their slavery past, most likely angered by the fact that Obama is their president.
They probably would have done something like this anyway regardless of who ended up being President. You either have it inside of yourself to do something like this or you don't. They do.

I'm not here to post a "my people's suffering was greater than your people's suffering thread"., but that's exactly what you have attempted to do.

Some may say that death was release from the suffering the Jews faced and the horrors they had to endure, slaves did not have that option, they were forced into a lifetime of degradation, abuse, rape, and suffering!

Please think before you post.
Excuse me, but I only stated my opinion, which I thought was very well thought out. You are free to disagree, but telling me to think before I post is out of line. I didn't post one thing in this thread that was worthy of that kind of response. I have not minimized the horrors of slavery or anything else.

I also never said that MrSykes is wrong. He's not wrong and I don't believe I am wrong either. We're just speaking on a forum and doing so in a respectful way. People are not going to agree on everything, but I happen to agree with a lot of what he has to say.

Have them spend some days picking cotton the old fashioned way (by hand) and let that be it, show them how "funny" the cotton thing is. Felony charges? Way overboard...

BTW @ learningCA.

He is the one who was attacking people, calling me a "bigot". So don't act like he's the victim. He certainly is not.
