So to recap;

- we don't want to pay for/subsidize insurance for anyone
- we don't want to have the government cover us with national insurance paid for with taxes
- we don't want to buy private insurance for ourselves
- we don't want to pay anything unless we CHOOSE to

...but we want everything available when we need it at little to no cost.

A remarkably good, and concise, statement about the GOP attitude.

If Obama made a speech to call the mothers of GOP congressmen beautiful, intelligent and virtuous, they'd be gathering votes for the "My mother is a dumb, ugly tramp!" bill 30 seconds later.

Last edited by Dane_in_LA; 03-23-2010 at 02:05 PM.. Reason: "tramp" is apparently OK...

No, you won't die. Because society will pick up the tab for you when you end up needed treatment for something. Interestingly enough, in a perfect world..the one you want to live in..you could die.
Actually, I went to the emergency room without health insurance. Society didn't pick up the tab either. I actually PAID MY BILL. Who would of thought? I have actually had several medical bills that I actually PAID FOR out of my own pocket. What the heck happened to PERSONAL RESPONSIBLITY in this country? The liberals seem to think we are all helpless and too stupid to help ourselves.

Was it an 80K bill?
I do realize there are emergencies (ouchie! I cut my finger and it won't stop bleeding!) and EMERGENCIES (half my scalp was just ripped off in an auto accident). One you can pay for, one you can't. One you go home and forget about, one you deal with for the rest of your life. Do YOU realize that?

I am all about personal responsibility too. It's responsible to protect yourself, your family and society from tremendous costs due to illness and accidents. I will never be without insurance if I have any say in the matter because I am responsible. If I was independantly wealthy that might not be an issue, but I'm not. Most people aren't.

How do they force people with low income to get health insurance ? If those people don't make enough to file income tax, how does uncle gov tax them ? If they get medicaid, why do they need other insurance ? I see a monopoly by major ins companies, and I do not see cheap premiums. It almost pays to "poor" yourself down, and qualify for helpouts. What good does it do to follow the rules, only to have uncle gov treat you like a chump ? I am all for health insurance based on ability to pay something, and covered accordingly, but...will the "pre existing" condition be covered immediately ??? Will the behemoth insurance companies gobble up the little guys like BOA did to smaller banks during the great rescue package ?

I REALLY wish I would have had health insurance then. I was a small pizza joint manager, it was the only job to be had (where I lived in the later Reagan years was a very economically depressed area), and they offered no health care. It took me a decade to climb out of that financial hole. The idiot only had 20k in insurance (TX minimum by law at that time) and just the hospital part of the bill alone was well into the tens-of-thousands. And of course every specialist, the surgeon, the gastroenterologist, the ambulance service, AFTERCARE, etc. send you a bill.

That was in 1988, so young folks need to consider what that amount of money translates to into today's dollars and think really hard about whether or not it's worth it. Plus, they will be able to stay on their parents insurance until they are 26, should they choose to.
If this calculator is accurate the costs are not that bad.
