Many people, with high IQs enjoy a little gambling, it is a form of entertainment like a football game, a good book, a movie or going out to dinner. As long as those gambling realize it is just entertainment and filled with some excitement it is fine..

Agreed. Making generalizations like the one you quoted are for people with limited IQ's if you ask me.

She was a poor person playing a penny slot machine. Of course she should be cheated out of all her winnings. We can't have poor people winning that much can we. It would upset the way things are done. We take from the poor and give to ourselves. That is the one right way.

I don’t care if the machine was broken. The payout window said 43 million bucks so that is what the casino should pay. If they were foolish enough to not have sufficient insurance the owners are liable for all of the payout out of their own pockets and the place goes bankrupt.

Gambling is gambling and if you lose you pay no matter how big your are or if you can afford it or not.

It's not about insurance. It's about clauses that state if a machine malfunctions the casino is not liable for faulty payout readings.

And I too agree with nmnita.

Was going to say the same thing. Indian Casinos are not governed by Federal Law. There was another guy in NM
I think, who won a progressive jackpot and they refused to pay. I would never play at an Indian Casino - only Vegas, AC, or MS.

I can't speak to the machines in Colorado, but I would expect that they're identical to the ones here, and every machine in Las Vegas has the phrase "Machine malfunction voids all plays and pays" printed right on it.

The machine in question is being examined by the authorities in Colorado. If she's entitled to any money, she'll get it. If not, she won't. Don't be so quick to assume that she's entitled to millions of dollars when you don't even know how gaming regulations work.

What the hell...? It sounds like you are making Toyman's point for him. Maybe you want to try again. You come across as inarticulate.

Addressing the "low IQ" issue, I'm an event producer in real life. I was producing an event for the top 150 Brain surgeons in the world at the #1 Resort in the world. That evening I went to the local NDN casino to play some blackjack and low and behold, the majority of those brain surgeons were at the casino gambling like drunken sailors.

As far as paying out the jackpot, I agree with GregW. Gambling is a two way street IMO. The player gambles and the house gambles albeit with the odds heavily favored on the house. Sometimes the player loses, sometimes the house loses, that's why it's called gambling. This time the house lost. They should pay up. At leat the highest stated jackpost for that machine.

I'm sure a casino can rig up a machine to have a "malfunction" if a payout jackpot comes up. They are all electronically controlled. They have cameras everywhere and zoom in on whoever wins so maybe there's a video record. Cell phones with cameras might be useful to take pictures of the slot screens.
Let her get a lawyer and hash it out in court, it might be cheaper for both sides to just settle.

For those of us who enjoy the stupid machines, we sometimes have no choice, but you certainly are right, give me those you listed and how about LA?

Nita

Thank you very much nmnita; i appreciate that. I even enjoy a night out at the casino's and dinner it is fun, we have at least 9 casino's close by. The point i was trying to make, was that there are people who spent their whole life and paychecks in a casino, then cry, when they have no money for food or bills. My Son saw it all working for a big casino for over 5 years.
