I see you're trying to clarify that you don't, considering you started with this...
"I guess you couldn't possibly be one of those who got the mass brainwash in public school."

I will admit that I did teach kids about Communism all those years and I also taught them about the weaknesses of it and the reasons it could never work as they are told by those who have been brainwashed...
Do you understand what brainwashing is?

I will bet you that not one of my ex-students is taken in by all this crap because they knew what it is all about. Even the girls who weren't interested in politics knew what was going on.

Yeah, I hated public education, as long as I was taking part. My wife is still in it after 38 years and will go two more and she says there is a whole lot of difference in the whole thing now as compared to the early 70s when she started.
And I am the King of Spain!

The truth is what you believe. Of course people can be brainwashed and it's even easier when you put them in a group.

I don't think brainwashing is a very useful term.

Society is based on a certain level of ideological manipulation and in America it is predicated on sustaining the current hierarchy while distracting the larger poorer populations with nonsense distractions. That's not brainwashing, it's just discursive control, setting the limits on what people talk and think about.

But no, you cannot brainwash "an entire nation". You can manipulate large segments, of course.

I think the current extreme right (which this forum is a magnet for) within this country is proof that you can indoctrinate a segment of the population. Not sure I'd use the term "brainwashed" though.

Absolutely.

If the media ran news items for 6 months saying Mickey Mouse was really a rat not a mouse. If a poll was takem after that 6 month period, I'll bet the majority if asked, would said he was a rat.

Brainwashed much like I've noticed that a certain poster now uses the term "progressives" instead of "liberals"... happened around the same time a host of a certain show on Fox started doing the same thing...

Interesting stuff!
