Hello!

We're new to the area. With this awesome weather, we are looking for recommendations to lakes, 1-2hrs driving distance from Portland vicinity where we can rent a boat and/or jet skis for the day. To clarify, rentals need to be where activities will take place as we do not want to haul any gear.

Thanks in advance!

No idea about power boats or jet skis, but we rent canoes or kayaks on the Tualatin River several times a summer:

Recreation - Tualatin Riverkeepers at Cook Park in Tigard

kayak rentals Tualatin - Alder Creek at Browns Ferry Park in Tualatin

You might try googling Lake Billy Chinook in Central Oregon or Lake Merwin in Southern Washington.
I believe both have boat rentals available.

LBC is heavy on the houseboating, but they may have other kinds of boats for rent.

Think Columbia River between Portland and Vancouver.
While not a "lake", it is a vast, open body of water. Far larger and more interesting than any lake nearby, while much closer to home.
Google 'Columbia river boat rental', pay attention to location of the place (Columbia is 1200 miles long)
Here is one example listed.

Also, why not follow Rob Allen's advice? Tualatin River is a true gem - an oasis of tranquility midst urban bustle.
As a newcomer to the area, after a canoe trip on the Tualatin river you'll understand what a great place this is.

Detroit Lake has a marina with boat and jet ski rentals. Detroit Lake is about a 1 1/2 to 2 hour drive from Portland.

I loved Detroit Lake as a kid. I'm 42 now, though, and haven't been there since I was 12.

Detroit can be an absolute madhouse on a hot summer weekend.

Lots and lots of alchohol fueled macho twenty somethings from surrounding towns, with their wakeboats, jet-skis, and attitudes.

We rented a canoe at Browns Ferry Park yesterday - paddled upstream until we could hear the music at the Tualatin Crawfish Festival (I think it was Johnny Limbo & the Lugnuts playing), then drifted back downstream. It was delightful. We even saw a heron.
