Hi all,
I'm new to this forum, but not new to Prescott. Prescott is a great place to live and a great place to raise a family. That's why I moved here. What you've seen in the media lately is pure nonsense. That's not Prescott. The person that has caused the whole uproar has admitted (practically bragged) about useing her friends at ABCnews for causing this thing to go viral. The group she belongs to is involved with protests all over Az (and elsewhere) I can provide links if requested. It's not unlike a few years back when a couple of newbies used their political powers to push for smoking bans. Once laws were passed, they literally moved out of Prescott within a week.

Prescott's population is overwhelmingly white (about 98%). It's not cause we're a bunch of racists, it's just the way it is. Not everything has a hidden meaning. Unfortunately, those with an agenda are the ones to scream racist, bigot, and other names in an effort to silence the opposition.

Like I said before, Prescott is a great place to live and raise a family. The biggest problem here is the lack of jobs (but that's not limited to Prescott).

Looks like the agenda folks didn't do a good job silencing the racist, bigots and others that thought it was a good idea to yell racial slurs at an elementary school full of children.

Art Attack: Elementary school mural getting a 'lighter' facelift - The Prescott Daily Courier - Prescott, Arizona

""Wall reports hearing comments such as "You're desecrating our school," "Get the ni----- off the wall," and "Get the sp-- off the wall."

"The pressure stayed up consistently," Wall said. "We had two months of cars shouting at us.""

Anyone can claim anything they want. Can Wall back his up with proof? With all the video that's been taken the past week, surely it should be easy to prove. I can back up my claims with facts, but it seems no one cares about the truth. They'd rather go through life with blinders on pretending and believing whatever fits their agenda. The truth may be painful, but I'd rather be hurt by the truth than comforted with lies.

We have a "problem" in Cottonwood too but when you read the police reports in the paper they don't report much of it. Seems like we have more DWIs than anything, driving on suspended, some domestic violence and some paraphenalia busts. I think, in last weeks paper, there were only a couple of busts for drugs/drugs for sale. We have several rehabs here as well but I only know one person who is in there on a regular basis and she is in her 50s!
Oh, I stayed away from it too, but I know plenty of people who didn't and it is painful sometimes to think about. Many times people don't see the tragic side of someone who is addicted- they just see a junkie, someone who is breaking the law. Having people you love struggle and fail with these problems can really be eye-opening. If you know them, you are blessed to see the good sides others manage to miss. It is also more painful because you know the true potential that was given up.

Sadly enough I have plenty of family members who have struggled with addictions. Two of them, a niece and nephew, were incarcerated, and later lived in rehab places, in Prescott. When I said I "stayed away from it" I meant I didn't have any friends or other acquaintences who did drugs and didn't get involved with people who did drugs. Family members are another story and yes, I know how sad it can be. Fortunately for all of them they are doing fine now and leading responsible lives. Well, except for one nephew who is still serving time in Florence for parole violations.

I don't know what happened with the generation after mine but they seemed to fall into a black hole or something. And I know that their parents...my siblings and cousins...seemed to be doing all the "right things" with their kids. It seems like all of us had at least one that fell into the drug pit. Which, considering that we all had several kids, doesn't seem TOO bad to me. But even one is heartbreaking when you love them.

WRONG!

Actually, Fox News did not talk about it, they tried to downplay it. Fox News was ashamed by it because Blair was on Fox radio when he made those comments. They fired him because of it.

The only agencies reporting on the story where CNN, MSNBC and other such networks. Fox avoided it like the plague.

I want to thank you all for the information on Prescott. I was thinking of re-locating there or Albuquerque but it seems that the folks in Alb are much more tolerant of people of color. Along with the predominate conserative views and the oppresive heat and water issues, I think Prescott and I would not be a match. I am sure Prescott is a heaven for many but after reading what was written about Albuquerque's race issues compared to Prescott's race issued, Albuquerque seems to be a bit more color blind.

3 - Prescott is still home to a white supremest organization. (link not posted - so as to not promote them)
4 - Prescott was one of the most notorious KKK strong points in the entire state of AZ. (They use to have regular clan rallies in the downtown square - see below picture, circa 1923). The racial hatred is still found here in Prescott. It is more underground, but it still exists.
5 - Just this year, they posted a U.S. Census sign in Spanish at the Downtown Square. People stormed the city mayor's office and told the city to remove the sign because if people can't read English they should leave this country and go back home. The city of Prescott, removed the sign

Exactly! There are still racists people here in this town. Still going on and probably will never change.

I had a friend of mine, that is black, and we went in one of the bars in downtown Prescott. Well, one of the regulars, that knew me came up to me to say hello and asked, "Who's this?" I told him and then he left. Well, a few minutes later he came by and leaned into me and said, "N***** lover!!" I was furious. My friend heard him and we told the bartender. Well, the bartender kicked the guy out and then I saw that guy a few months later and he told everybody (the ones that knew me) about it. Now there's a new rumor about me. Again, NOT TRUE.

So, from my experience living here for 6 years, there are still rude, mean, racist people here. Not all of them, mind you, but quite a few.
