doesn't seem to be that much of a debate going on

it seems the impact of the bengals making or not making the playoffs is very minimal in this discussion as most feel it's to newton regardless

I don't think reaching the playoffs necessarily makes Dalton more of a candidate than Newton, I think Newton has shown more in his rookie season.

Both? I thought the AFC & NFC each had a Rookie of the Year.

I think it is offense and defense, not divisions. They are both QBs so one or the other, I can't imagine other candidates. I'm not mentioning names or going down that road.

Great question. Newton's stats are tough to argue against but everyone wrote off the Bengals when Palmer held out and then was traded.

Everyone also thought Carolina was going to be a total pushover this year. They've led in all but one game this year (a lot of times by over two scores) only to have the defense choke nearly every time.

Yep. Go back to some preseason predictions. No one thought Carolina was going to have more than a few wins.

The NFL is a results-based league. Playoffs or passing yards? Hmmm...

Nobody thought Cincinnati would either.

Dalton also had a veteran coach and a talented defense behind him. Cam has a rookie coach and a depleted D behind him also the NFL's toughest schedule and three teams in the division with over 10 wins last year.

And the NFL is a team sport. You can't simply just look at wins and losses. If that was the case every player on a sucky would - well suck - and every player on a good team would be - good. That is obviously not true.

Carolina has scored 389 points, Cincy 328. Carolina has given up 384 points and Cincy 299. Newton has a ton more TDs and set the NFL all time rushing TD record for a QB and the all time passing yards record for a rookie QB.

Right. Nobody thought either team would do much. So as far as I'm concerned that is a wash. They were both supposed to be bad.
