try to not listen to the announcers at all. honestly, no one here or on TV really understands the game or can predict what is going to happen with any accuracy. You can establish credibility with those you watch with in homes or at a bar by swearing a lot and occasionally yelling out "Blitz! Blitz!" either just before or just after the ball is hiked. Or, immediately state matter-of-factly, "looks like holding" whenever you notice the word "FLAG" pop up on the TV graphics.
I actually CAN SAY some of those with confidence, when they occur!
Especially "he was wide open" and "what a block"....
Now the zone stuff...don't get all that yet...or some of the formations I need to study...

I believe now I have the basics down...
The rules I can follow, they speak for themselves...
There are just so many ways to make a drive down the field... blocks to make it happen etc
Take quick thinking to call those plays one after the other, in just minutes-fascinating.

I've been watching football 50 yrs. I just pay attention to basics, 3 downs to get 10 yards, don't do it, punt the ball or go for it on 4th and inches if you think you have a chance. I don't care if the announcers think he should have thrown it to someone who was more open or you have to catch that ball, guy dropped it, he knows he has to catch it! Talk about overstating the obvious no wonder football is confusing!!! [/quote]

and here's the bonus...if you can call out "intentional grounding!" before the refs get together and huddle about it and the announcers mention it, you're golden.
Madden is a video game for probably Xbox or some other gaming system, I would guess. Don't do those, haven't ever seen it played and don't care to. I'll be blasted for this but reading comments I read at various sports sites, or after articles online, it would seem the younger generation expects the NFL to be more like Madden the game. Please!!!!
