That is bad idea you can not compare countries poor because there are many circumstances that are different. Having food shelter and medical care does not mean you are well off.
Sweeping generalizations are automatic falsehoods. Those make these statements are not really interested in facts. Some poor people are poor by their own doing. Some are not. Finito.
Blame is a harsh word but wearing your failure like a proud badge of entitlement
Now that has just got to stop
God does not make junk
Be somebody deal with your stuff own it and change it and move on
Signed a former poor man and poor mouth
It's called the Just World Fallacy. Right wingers tend to believe in it.
I'm a right winger. I wrote the 2nd post in this thread. Go read it. You are wrong about right wingers.

And some of us HAVE gone through EXACTLY what you wrote. Don't for a second think that people in this country are not starving, are not homeless, don't have jack squat...because there are indeed people like that. I was one of those people.

Exactly. Some people do throw in the towel and give up, and some people are poor no matter how hard they try. It just is for some people.

In a sense. I believe that you should always try. I don't believe you should give up and ask someone to take care of you because it's too hard. You should continue to try. Charities are there to help you along, but YOU HAVE TO PUT IN THE EFFORT. You can't just sit down and say, "that's it, I'm done trying". That's what you do not get about right wingers...speaking of sweeping generalizations.

Wrong. The "right wingers" give a crap ton of money to charities to help those less fortunate. Again, as stated above, all we ask is that you keep trying. You think I have no idea what it's like? You would be so disgustingly wrong about that. I know exactly what it's like to be f-en hungry for days on end. I know exactly what it's like not to have a place to live. I know exactly what it's like to have nothing. But even when I had nothing, I still did everything I could to better myself.
I have no problem helping someone. That probably shocks you seeing as I'm a "right winger". All I ask is that person continues to try to help themselves. I don't hand out money for free, and I certainly do not hand out OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY, (ahem), but I will give if someone has been trying, is trying, and continues to try and just needs a helping hand.
I just wanted to find out why people who have found or made a better financial situation for themselves, and people with wealth or who grew up in wealth, always categorize everyone who's poor as being underachievers, or people who haven't tried hard enough in life? Why are the poor blamed for being poor?
Because to admit the poor were at a disadvantage might suggest their own accomplished were, at least in part, due to their own relative advantages. Waelthy people don't want to believe that. The want to believe, and want others to believe, they did it all on their own. Especially in the US, where the "self-mad man" myth is believed with almost religious fervor.
