We just finished what felt like a world tour of SW Florida, and long story short I still think there's nothing quite like Punta Gorda. Better value all around. I'd have to say Marco Island is a close 2nd, but only for the beach and the vivid blue water. That's one heckuva beach, and the clear blue water--absolutely stunning.

One thing's for sure, and my wife commented on this specifically: in no place we went were people as friendly and approachable like those in PG. On any given day when there, at any hour or any place, it's always dozens of "hi" or "hello" from complete strangers.

When down there for New Year's eve we even got a roaring "happy new year!" from a bunch of guys dressed in kilts and joined by their wives, all enjoying outdoor patio dining at a local restaurant, as we walked past.

THANKS!!!...so happy to be there...even if it is part time...FOR NOW....

We closed on our new PG home last Monday. Very busy week of shopping, coordinating services, picking up and unboxing all the stuff we shipped down.

We ate out alot. We love the dining choices in PG.

Lashlys: Sushi
Tortugas: Seafood (Hatteras Clam Chowder)!
Peach River Seafood: Crabs, shrimp, lobster bites
River City: Scallops
Turtle Club: (Everything! ) Pork 'wings', mussels, flat iron steak
Jacks: Pork Chop
Celtic Ray: Fish and Chips (very fresh cod), Scotch egg
Jimmys Tacos: Great salsas and tacos.
Johnskis: always great breakfast and lunch.

Besides the food, service was also very good at all places.

Mike

Mike: thanks for the nice listing. We will be down again the second week in April to purchase a home. In one week we should be able to knock out the list!
Thanks again!

Agreed. They need to improve. Right now it seems like a high volume, mid-tier quality food emporium. If I want something that reminds me of TGI Friday's in the Chicago airport, I'll go there next time I'm passing through.

That said, at Laishley's the beer's ice cold and the views excellent.

Laishley's is good for beer...that's about it. IMO, their food and Harpoon Harry's is awful. Beer and atmosphere is what they have going.

I love Jack's. Their seafood is great-scallops, fish, lobster ravioli etc

Deans is good for a burrito as is Jimmy's Tacos

Right on with Celtic Ray.

Trabue is excellent but pricey--grouper or scallops are a sure bet.

Haven't been to Tortugas or Turtle Club since they opened back up.

Didn't care for Phil's 41.

Three of us went to Tortugas last night and it was excellent. Small place that does not take reservations. But the food is really good.

Turtle Club only once since it reopened and that was a disappointment.
