While any shooting is too many, there are only three incidents listed here. Unless the area is averaging three shootings every day, I'm not sure the situation is as dire as you make it sound. I don't know -- maybe someone can provide annual crime stats.
And a reminder -- if you'd like to discuss gun control, please take it to P&OC, as it's not a local issue.

The Triangle, not RTP. I can't remember a homicide that actually took place inside the Research Triangle Park proper, although I suppose there has been at least one since the late 1950s.
When good things happen it is RTP when bad things like shootings or rape happen then it is Durham. There was a murder last summer that the shooting happened in RTP, but it wasn't random.

The Triangle is far from being out of control with gun violence. Look at where two of the three shootings occurred. One was in a housing project in Durham and the other was at a club in a not so nice area of Raleigh. I lived in Raleigh for over 40 years and I can't recall one instance where I was concerned for my safety.
