I've have always planned on moving to the Apex/Cary area. Been to the area a few times, and I'm comfortable with what I found. Already had the area, schools, church, and stores mapped out. Now, a possible job offer has popped up in Greensboro. The commute is challenging, to say the least. And I don't know much about the area yet.
Can you all offer some perspective on this commute? Would it be crazy? How does Greensboro compare to Apex/Cary?

2.5--3 hours in the car daily, along with work requirements?

I'd live in Greensboro.

So yes, it's more logical to live in Greensboro. I am investigating the area. I must say their forum is a lot less active than this one! What would I be losing out in considering Greensboro over Apex/Cary?? Thanks.
I commuted from Durham to Greensboro for graduate school for about a year. It was doable, but wearing. The drive ate up a lot of my day, and I hated dealing with the big trucks. My drive took just about an hour, sometime up to an hour and 15 minutes. Apex is at least another 20 minutes farther.
I agree with michgc. It's a situation that I would deal with if I already had ties to the area. It's not a situation I would choose, if I were moving here.

You judge the attractiveness of a city based the level of activity on a web forum????? Good grief!
Greensboro is a perfectly nice place to live. Do some research and not just on C-D.
I know someone who lives in Apex and drives to Greensboro every other weekend and sometimes extra days for her kids' visitation with their dad. She drives every day because she's in RE, but she hates that particular drive. If you are already in Apex, you just have to deal with it until you can relocate. If you are not already in Apex, it might be worth it to live in Greensboro or closer. Admittedly, I don't like to drive so I can't imagine a scenario in which I would have an extra 10+ hours per week commute just to get somewhere. It would have to offer a great salary, benefits and perks especially with today's gas prices.
