AMJ,

You can be well within your budget at:

Upchurch Farms
Green Hope Crossing
Amberly
Cary Park (where there are also large townhomes at the top of your budget.)
Twin Lakes
Greystone
Haddon Hall
Weathersby

And many others.
There is a wide selection of excellent communities with available townhome rentals.

This is good news. Thanks! I will be moving down at the end of June beginning of July. I have been looking on Zillow and Craigslist. But I will check out the neighborhoods that you mentioned. I hope we love it there and that my girls like the schools.

Some schools are capped for attendance, so be careful about assuming school assignments.
Check with Wake County Public Schools about assignments for 2015-2016 on line at Address Lookup and School Maps
And, call the schools to confirm.

Also check realtor.com. The site has an option to search rentals.

Oh wow ... I did not know that was still a problem in the area. Are the kids being switched every year or are they locked into the school that they are assigned?

MOST kids are NOT switched "every year."
When a new school opens, it has to be filled from somewhere.

You just need to do your homework with WCPSS and not fall for some of the Pandemic Switcheroo Hysteria.

Capped schools have nothing to do with re-districting. When an area grows this fast, certain schools can reach their capacity very quickly - and (fairly) if you're not living in the base zone when it gets capped, you don't get to come in and contribute to the overflow. But you'll be sent to a close school, not shipped across the county.

Will it be a comparable school as far as schools are rated? I mean, they are not going to send the kids to a school that is not that great when you are living in the district that is good ... right? I chose Cary and Apex based on the schools. I hope that didn't sound rude ... the quality of the school is a big deal for me.

The areas that you are looking in, yes the overflow schools are comparable. Plus you are looking all over Cary and Apex where the majority of schools are not capped. West Cary is were this would really be an issue for you. As far as private schools, you should do a search there are many threads asking the same question.
