Does anybody who knows that area? Any other good areas in Durham?
First home buyer. We would really appreciate your kind suggestions.
Thanks in advance.
Our price range 200k-350k.
Grove Park is very close to my house. The side south of 98 is called Lakeside and the side north of 98 is called Linkside. They are also building a new section by the new library. I think Crossings at Grove Park refers to the golf course, but not totally sure.
I liked some houses in Grove Park Lakeside when we were looking at houses 6 years ago, but they were a bit above my price range. I found I could get pretty much the same thing for a little less money by going the next sub north. My sub is called Marbrey Landing (going north on Stallings Rd from 98, Grove Park Linkside is the first sub, Marbrey Landing is the next). But we don't have golf or a community pool or any of those things either like Grove Park does. I didn't care about those things, so I was fine with it. But now we are selling, and I know that other people do care about those things because Grove Park beat us out on a buyer who said they were going there b/c they want a pool. Not sure what you want to know really I guess.
I live in Grove Park Linkside and I love it. Great, well maintained neighborhood, good price ranges. 1800sf home, 3b 2.5ba on a golf course lot would be about $170-180K. There are some really nice homes on great lots for $250-300K. With Brier Creek only 10-15min away it is convenient and the commute to RTP or Duke is a breze. The community has a junior olympic sized pool, tennis courts, gym. The community seems to be priamrily young families, a lot of Duke and RTP workers.
My Husband plays the course regularly and thoroughly enjoys it. It may not be the best one in the area but it is very popular, well kept and well priced. It is also a very well designed golf course community that is the only one in the area with nice homes in the mid 100s-mid 300s (where the mid 100s are actually looking out over the course).
We're just selling our Grove Park home for the purpose of downsizing. Searching for a new home elsewhere is making us realize what a great community Grove Park really is. It's quiet, safe, friendly, becoming more and more convenient all the time, due to developments like Brier Creek and nearby shopping centers. It's hard to find the same amenities we have here for the money anywhere else.
It's an incredible commute to and from RTP, that alone is a huge benefit. We'll be very sorry to be back to fighting traffic, which will be the case almost no matter where else we go.
Grove Park is a very socially active community, there are all sorts of events year round both sponsored by the HOA, such as a 4th of July parade, Casino Night, Cabin Fever, or those privately organized by neighbors such as the Wine Club which are building traditions, like an annual Champagne Brunch and a Progressive Thanksgiving Dinner.
We seem to be experiencing a boom time here, there are half the number of houses on the market this year compared to last, and properties are moving quickly. Ours sold in a week, and we are on high end of the pricing range here. Moderator cut: removed

She was the selling realtor on our home too. She was very nice and made sure the one repair required from the inspection was completed prior to closing. West2South. Good luck with the move, I am pleased that there are proponents for this neighborhood on this generally anti-Durham anti-Crossings forum (before the attacks begin, please note I said generally). Many people comment on these neighborhoods without ever stepping foot into one. Very sad. We lived 6 months in Cary. What a horrible commute and far too "desperate housewives" for my taste. I am sure I will change my mind when we have older kids though!
