We have visited Asheville and totally agree! Haven't been to Raleigh yet.

It seemed like Raleigh/Durham had more job opportunities than Asheville though.

For sure.
And, housing is just as expensive, or more, in Asheville.

Can't overstate this enough: Raleigh/Durham is NOTHING like Bend. One look at a yearly relative humidity chart will confirm that. If anything RDU is more more akin to the Valley. Well, except that are a lot of pine trees, so there's that...

BTW - I always thought Asheville reminded me of Hood River.

No, this area is not like Bend but some areas of Raleigh and Durham have a Portland hipster vibe to it IMO. So in that way I think they won't find the attitude here much different than what they are used to.

That's a good analogy of Hood River to Asheville. I haven't been there in a while so not sure what it's like these days. I think of Asheville has having the high end amenities, great beer and restaurants, etc just like Bend while also being accessible to beautiful landscapes and hiking.

Which is why I said RDU is closer in character to the Valley. I don't think you're wrong that generally speaking attitudes are more similar than different, but it's also been my experience that people who live in Bend usually aren't all that fond of Portland.

RDU even finally has beer from Deschutes now, so there's that.

Do you know of any stores in the area that sell Deschutes beer?
