And maybe it's just me, but I noticed a change once KK's donuts started getting recognition outside of NC in the 1990's and internationally in 2000, and went public at the turn of the 21st Century as well. They weren't quite as consistently good as they once were. Were they letting the fame make them a bit complacent and being more concerned about making the current quarter look good to equity shareholders than making sure the ever expanding inventory of boxes on rural grocery/convenience store shelves miles from a KK donut shop was still fresh when it got to the consumer? I don't know. They're still pretty darn good, but just not quite what they were before donut imperialism made them cast their net much further and wider.
KK on Person closed around 10 years ago for a major remodel. The donuts were never the same after they reopened. They also discontinued the cake donut which was my favorite. After several years they brought the cake donut back, but it was lighter and nowhere as good as the original.
Lol at listing the ingredients....it isn't that serious, you just don't dig it. Anyway, KK recipe is actually a yeast-raised recipe from a New Orleans chef. Not worth the argument, anyone who can handle sugar and a fan of glazed doughnuts usually give it high marks. Of course there will be people who don't care for it, much like any other highly acclaimed food or product. It certainly isn't healthy, anything that good usually isn't.
It actually is serious, because a lot of donut places don't use that much crap. KK tasted more like a science experiment than food to me. I'm guessing it's due to their ingredients. If people grew up eating chemically tasting donuts its what they are accustomed to. I'm not so they are weird. Google Krispy Kreme chemical taste and it's very common.
I very rarely eat sugar and also eat low carb. Donuts are a very rare treat for me and I sure wont be wasting it on KK. I will save it for Britts.
#1 it's not closing, the building was just sold but it's still going to be KK
#2 KK donuts are pretty far down my list of donuts
I'm from the South but Dunkin Donuts>KK
around here it's 1) Bakers Dozen in Cary 2) Dunkin 3) hipster trendy donut brands around the triangle 4) KK
#3 Hardee's breakfast is AMAZING. Their service completely sucks, but breakfast is great. But their new cookie is the pits.
For those complaining about KK taste on a thread started by people afraid it's closing, what would you care anyway since you don't like the taste?

There is no “but”... you are no longer from the south making such a treasonous comment .

Ok....I'll take my chances, purely anecdotal but both of my parents are 80+ and eat KK (prolly couple of times a month) plus fresh garden food, and good ole country living down east near Wilmington...No, neither are that fond of Britts.
I don't think anyone should over indulge on doughnuts (sugar), however, your "science" based theory appears more "junk" science than anything of substance....google the word "organic" and see what that good ole internet says about that. It's akin to the diet soda and fried 3-piece from Bojangles which is indeed low carbs...."weird" is a frame of reference, so back at ya. Meaning, if the claimed methodology or ingredients taste better or have convinced you it is healthier (chemicals removed or sound), then good for you...what's the old adage "there's a sucker born every minute".

My wifes grandma is 82, is more active than people 1/4 of her age, and she doesnt eat Krispy Kreme. Whats your point? That one isolated case can prove something?? Nice one....
I never brought up the word "organic", you are putting words into my mouth. I eat donuts with basic ingredients because they taste better and I support companies not putting so much garbage into my food. My cheat meals are pretty rare and I would not waste it again on KK. If you and your parents want to support them be my guest. I will eat donuts that don't leave an awful aftertaste in my mouth.
Seems like I ticked a nerve on you. Are you a stock holder or do you work there? Or are you just overly sensitive about some random persons opinion on the internet? I would suggest a safe space for you. The university of Utah has a cry closet that might work well.
My mom is 90 and very active. I never remember a box of Krispy Kreme's not being on her kitchen counter. They didn't last as long though when we lived there
I guess I'm just spoiled by Shipley's Donuts in Texas. They're donuts, so yeah, they're sugary--but SO much better than Krispy Kreme.
Shipley’s is big time and they’ve branched outside of Houston. Would make a killing if they opened one in the triangle.
Speaking of Texas the number one donut to try is Round Rock donuts. Nothing will surpass the awesomeness of those golden glazed
