Ferland left early after suffering through apparent concussion symptoms again. Have a feeling he may not be back for a few weeks. Staal is also out with a concussion, so thinks are not looking to rosy.

Kuokkanen has been called up. Staal on retroactive IR.

I heard Rod was spotted in Nash Square, consulting with a possible team motivational speaker:

Rod has to go. How does he not put Svechnikov, Aho, or TT in the shootout? Inexcusable and a fireable offense.

It also doesn't help that he goes with Darling and the team predictably blows a 4-1 lead.

He had to go with Darling. 3 games in 4 days. But, Darling looked slow and sluggish and very lucky on many of his "stops."
The guy beside us said, "I think his approach is to lay out on the ice and hope they miss." LOL, but honestly he DID make some very good stops.

Yeah, I don't get the shootout shooter choices. And, the whole league knows about Slavin's "move" by now. It would be a great deke at this point, if he had another weapon.

The team decided they had this one locked up and took most of the 2nd period off. They.just.cannot.do.that.and.compete.in.the.NHL.

Ovechkin is incredible from the left circle. He shoots a rocket that burns most all goalies in the league. Last night was Darling's turn, and he couldn't solve it.

And..... I'm a BrindA'mour supporter.
I wonder how long it will take management to burn him out with limited talent vs. the rest of the league?

Look, aside from a few people who (for whatever reason) have sustained high success in shootouts -- Matt Cullen and Jussi Jokinen were in that category -- it's just a crap-shoot of who you send up. Everybody statistically has about the same chance of scoring, on the order of 25-35%. The guy from Washington who won the shootout isn't exactly a household name.

Canes were playing back-to-back after landing at RDU around 2 am from Montreal. The fact that they faded in the latter half of the game shouldn't surprise anyone. The Caps hadn't played since Tuesday and had plenty of gas in the tank.

And, the Caps figured we were pushovers until we went 4-1 on them.

Still, like someone said on FB...
"Live by your fastball, die by your fastball."
I would have liked to see Aho in shootout. Hot hand.
Good point on the back to back.
So... They get some rest and clobber the Coyotes on Sunday? They need to. The barn will be full and they need to give people a reason to come back.

In his post game Rod said something along the lines of they don't have a "shootout guy" they just go with the same thing they do in practice and they practice it during every session. He said that Dougie is probably the best one at it. I hate losing to the Caps

It's just hard to say. For all his talent, Skinner was far below average in shootouts. Eric Staal was barely into the average zone. You might remember that Laviolette, Maurice, Muller, and Peters learned not to send Eric Staal out in a shootout.

Jaromir Jagr and Martin St Louis weren't good at it, either.

Oshie and Kuznetsov of the Caps are some of the best in the business, but they didn't score last night. Ovechkin is average.
