The Hurricanes will have to trend upward this season. A bad start and/or missing the playoffs could lead to another round of changes on the coaching staff.

Peters' system focuses more on defense. Keeping the puck out of the defensive zone needs to be balanced with goals scored.
The Hurricanes need more than three team members scoring 20 or more goals.
I like defense. A 2-1 win is as good as a 5-4 win in the columns.
A goal saved is one that doesn't have to be scored.
Are you saying the system is wrong and denies offense, or the players/talent on the ice aren't up to scoring? If the latter, I think some effort has been put into a remedy.
Hockey players are getting really big.
I forget the exact numbers, but the Canes are much larger and stronger this year.
Went from average 6'0" and 190# to 6'2" and 210#, or something like that. (Of course, Gerbe going to NYR was a large part of that change.)
They got beat around and pushed around a lot in the past, and I think some bulk with speed and development will go a long way.
When the puck is being cleared from the defensive zone consistently, that is good. When a goaltender is facing 40 shots or more each game because no one is clearing the puck and everyone is camping out in the defensive zone, that is bad.
Team members not stepping up to score would be the problem for the Hurricanes. If you are not scoring consistently, you are playing fourth line minutes or watching the game from the press box.

Well, then, we had a great year last year, and should improve this year with the kids on defense having more experience.
Average 27.5 shots on goal against both goalies over 82 games.
Are we expecting more scoring across the National Hockey League this season?
