My wife and I are in the market for a 4Runner, and I was just wondering if one area dealership stands above the rest in everyone's opinion.
We bought our last 4Runner form Mark Jacobson in Durham, and our experience was a 7 out of 10. Leith and Fred Anderson are closer to us, but any dealership withing 50 miles or so is an option.
We’ve really only worked with Fred Anderson and Hendrick, and both times Fred Anderson easily won out. They were easy to deal with, competitive with their initial pricing offers, and came down even more without any hassle to ensure they got the sales. Both times came away paying less than my well-researched goal price. Hendrick gave us the runaround both times with clueless salesmen, sales pressure, and multiple layers of managers designed to obfuscate the negotiation process. The only thing they were good for was creating pricing leverage.
On my most recent purchase, when I was ready to pull the trigger I sent a “give me your best price” email to several area dealerships including Leith. Leith is the only one that would give me any sort of price without me having to show up in person, but even with that they wouldn’t give me a clean out-the-door price quote and I could tell they weren’t going to beat Fred Anderson.

Fred Anderson is better, but I'm only speaking in Service terms. I've tried out both. Hendrick Toyota service is very dishonest and will get you to do all kinds of service items too early, or unnecessary ones like "fuel injector cleaner service" and "throttle body flush." Absolute garbage service over there.

Fred Anderson has recommended those to me on occasion as well. Just decline "dealer-recommended" maintenance and stick to the manufacturer's maintenance schedules unless there's an actual problem.

The way Toyotas are built I just do the stuff in the owners manual. By the time most people have driven their car to the dealer, I'm already done changing filters and oil. A lot cheaper too. Leith replaced the inverter on our Prius under warranty, I saw all the folks sitting there waiting for their cars as it was the first time one of our cars had been to a shop in over a decade! I can't imagine spending one's day off doing that.
