Thank you... Moderator cut: orphaned
i did call the Wake County Sheriff Department, however, ASKING other people there experiences is a very helpful and legitimate course of action.

The best way to find out the laws is to go to usacarry.com (formerly packing.org). It lists the various laws for each state, and the people there will be well-versed in the NC laws.
I personally brought a handgun when I moved here in 2006, and it's easy. You just keep it in your trunk (not in the car within reach) when you drive in, then you can use your previous state's ID card until you get a new NC one. In NC we are also lucky to have concealed carry, so you can take a weekend course and then carry concealed if you choose to do so.

I spoke to a Sheriff before I bought my guns down from NJ. NC doesn't have any registration laws or anything else of the sort. Basically just put them in your trunk drive down. That's what the Sheriff told me. It is a lot more lax here than most states. If you are looking for a CCW permit, you have to be a resident for 30 days first, then take the class (and pass).
