Default Active Adult/Retirement Communities Part-Year

So, my folks are thinking of snowbirding down here in the wintertime. Does anyone know of rental situations they may be able to get into for 3-4 months at a time instead of a full year lease or buying?

I'd be interested in this as well - My Mom likes to visit us in between her way to Florida/Maine trek...a week to two week stay is awesome..then it gets to be a bit much. A 1-2 month rental twice a year would be awesome in the north raleigh area...any options available? We looked at corporate apartment rentals once at the corner of strickland/six forks area but they were 1500 or so a month...a bit steep. unfurnished would be fine...

Some apt. complexes will do unfurnished for 3 months but they do charge a bit more per month. You also have the security deposit and you'll need some furniture.

Furnished apts. can be pricey.

Extended Stays are usually good for 1 to 2 months.

Maybe you can put them to work! Find an Agent that has vacant listings and get mom and dad to HOUSE SIT!

Now that's a smart idea.

It took Vicki to think of that one.

As Clark Howard would say, "What a deal".

It doesn't really matter. They can definitely do a little more "upscale," but they just aren't really interested in the commitment of buying. I've got siblings in the Southwest as well, and they may want to consider alternating years between NC and Cali.

Resurrecting this thread... Just wonder if anyone has any more input. My folks remain pretty interested in wintering down here for 3-4 months at a time, without the commitment of buying. We're thinking something more on the western side of the Triangle, Durham/CH.

They'd really prefer furnished, and ground-floor/accessible is a need as well since my dad uses a cane.

Default Short-term retirement stays in Raleigh, NC

You might contact Alta Oakridge in North Raleigh. They are a new independent living retirement community, and offer month-to-month rentals. It's a gorgeous facility and the staff seem great.

Are you suuurrre they don't want to buy? I know of a very nice, practically new, first floor condo for just $114,900 in western Wake (27519) that would be perfect for a few months here or there. $114,900 isn't too much of a commitment and you can leave a condo for 8 months and be fine! In fact, this sort of thing is where I seem to be getting a bit of interest, but people just aren't moving very fast these days / can't commit to the idea.

Maybe someone needs to buy it and rent it to all these people who want one for a few months at a time.
