Our real estate agent refuses to show us any houses in the Brentwood area of Raleigh...I know nothing about this area and I feel like we're being shut out of a lot of potentially nice houses.
Is there a reason why there are so many houses on the market there?
Does anyone on these boards live there and like the neighborhood?
Your agent "refuses to show you houses in Brentwood"?
TALK to your Agent. TELL her that you found some houses in the Brentwood area that you want to see. If she declines to show them to you, find another Agent. Call her Broker in Charge.
My goodness...you are an adult, right?
We just went through this with someone on this board who said her Agent won't show her Durham.
I don't get it. I have plenty of clients. My clients are buying a house. I work for my clients. THEY tell me what they want to see.
If you are old enough to buy a house, spending your own money, be old enough to TALK to your Agent.
As for the Brentwood area...it started out as a middle class neighborhood. Very friendly. In the last few years, as the homeowners got older and moved out, it seemed difficult to sell those houses because of some of the surrounding area. Some people rented out their homes. Unfortunately, some of the renters haven't taken very good care of their homes and yards so the area became a bit ratty looking.
Since the homes are priced lower than some, the area is improving, as younger people are getting into the housing market.
The schools could use some more improvement. Re sale has been somewhat risky.
Now, you are educated to the area and you have the knowledge to decide IF you want to see the area. If you do, TALK TO YOUR AGENT.
don't think you have the right to belittle me for asking a question...the fact is we have seen a lot of nice places inside of our price range in other areas in Raleigh and our agent doesn't think that the area is the best part of the city to invest in. Since we're fairly new in town and most people we know don't know the area I figured I would ask this board which has provided me fairly reliable information in the past.
The information you provided was what I was looking for, but maybe you should drop the attitude...sorry if I didn't craft my question to your liking....maybe its time for you to get off the internet and enjoy the nice weather.

Actually, I'm heading out with clients.
The reason you took my response as belittlement (is that a word) is that you phrased it to make it seem as if your Agent wouldn't show you something you asked about. Your response words it a bit differently.
My response is based on people that keep saying things like "my agent is steering me" or "my agent won't show me".
I become offended by that. The reason is that it sounds very sterotypical of Agents.
Instead, your initial response could have been what your second repsonse was...that your agent was ADVISING you, not STEERING you.
I bumped up the thread about Durham, so you could see what Agents, like me, have to deal with and WHY my response to you was less than subtle!
I wasn't offended by YOU but by those words that I hear over and over again. You now say that your agent is helpful but your initial wording was quite different and made your agent sound like someone who wasn't helping you. I don't think that is fair to your agent at all.

I believe Vicki was outragged at your agent, not you. She basically said that she can't believe your agent wouldn't show you houses that YOU wanted to see. Seems very unprofessional of an agent and in this market I'd be surprised that any agent wouldn't show you a house...is she trying to lose money??
She wasn't belittling you--she was actually telling you to stnad up for your rights
There is a poster here called "lovebrentwood" who will gush about it for you I personally remember that neighborhood "seeing better days" back in the 1970s and 1980s, when it was a wonderful family-friendly suburaban neighborhood, but I can't actually speak from firsthand knowledge of living there. However, it at least borders on some sketchy areas.
