edit...I also just noticed the "Cary-Raleigh" metro area reference.....really?
It goes with other statements like "The greater Cary area".

I used to think it was funny to hear people say Durham/Raleigh but it's every funnier to hear Cary/Raleigh.

Let's just get this stuff straight. No matter how much people want to wish otherwise, it will always be Raleigh/Durham because Raleigh is simply the bigger city. The Triangle will always be Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill. The cities with the three major universities are listed in descending order of size.
Likewise, other metros in the nation will never be Fort Worth/Dallas, St. Paul/Minneapolis, Ft Lauderdale/Miami, St Petersburg/Tampa, Round Rock/Austin or Spartanburg/Greenville.

The term Raleigh/Cary is a product of the Census Bureau splitting up of the former Raleigh/Durham MSA. As ridiculous Cary/Raleigh sounds, it also sounds desperate for attention.

Pick any Northeastern or Midwestern NHL city and a good number of their fans live in the Triangle.

Outside of this area the marketing of the Triangle is Cary. People up 95 no where Cary is and have positive connotations with it. Durham does not have that vibe. It is Cary that is highlighted as one of the to 10 small cities in the country. The draw is Cary my reference point with friends up North is Cary. Cary as a place to live fits the description of being desirable to a segment of the population just as Ashville does. This is from someone who lives outside of Wake County but judges the quality of their lifestyle by how close they are to Cary. Speaking of we were there today. Lovely to visit as always.

I gave you a rep point and I am speechless. Your post is so right on spot it is amazing. I was at a store today in Cary and it was so the appropriate store. It was like the Whole Foods of hardware stores. There is a lot I could say but might blow this thread up. Yes Cary is the upscale marketing of the Triangle at it's finest.

Cary is certainly the greatest. We will always appreciate our time there. God I hope Cary annexes us someday.

I thought you wanted to be out in the country? The only reason Cary would annex you out there in south-central Wake County (where I assume you currently live) is if they were going to build it up and turn it into more suburbia. If that is what you wanted couldn't you have just stayed where you were in Cary before?

I am always torn. I love BOTH the things of Cary and things in pure country. Right now, I have the wonderful country I love so much and good access to Cary, so I feel we have the best of both worlds. We are very lucky and really appreciate it. I would just like what we have to be included in Cary. Highly unlikely as this incorporated area was annexed by another town not to long ago, so I am told.
