In fairness, the sun IS really bad for paint, dashboards, leather interiors, cloth interiors, the plastic trim, rubber elements like door seals, etc.
There are many examples of vehicles from as recent as the early 2000s (And I'm sure some lower quality interiors, even more recent) with dashboards that have faded and cracked from excessive exposure to the sun in places with high concentration of "sunny days"
Though I have a huge maple tree that blocks most of the sun from my driveway, so other than some maple sap on my windshield (Which I actually hate with every fiber of my being) my cars don't have too much sun effect on them.
As a side note, however, think of parking lots at work - Unless you have a garage to park in at work, that sure is a lot of sun exposure for your cars, no?
Yep. The vast majority of the time my car would be exposed to the sun would be at work. So how much is it really helping? Plus you could always put sun screens in your car if it really did bother you.

I worked at my last job for 20 years before retiring. Other companies offered me jobs many times over that 20 years, but one of the factors that made me decide to stay with my employer was the covered parking. That may sound crazy to youall but it was very important to me.
My little two-door Jeep Cherokee is 14 years old -- but, with covered parking during the day and being garaged the rest of the time (some of my neighbors have never even seen my car), the exterior and interior still look brand new. (And I have the engine steam-cleaned regularly so it looks brand new too. )
I dont care if my neighbors park in the driveway or the street. But I do notice that their cars age quickly in the Houston sun.
I have read this entire thread and I have to say that some people really seem to feel a need to control other people. While I do care about others and try to minimize impacting my neighbors it is quite petty to worry about whether someone parks their car in the garage or on driveway. Our yard is beautiful, we take our garbage can in, we don't have loud parties and we are friendly. We invite our neighbors when we do have a party and we attend their parties when we are invited.
There is no way that I am going to rearrange my life because a busybody with nothing better to do than criticize other people doesn't want to see MY car on MY driveway. IMO that is wanting to control other people way to much.

My Cherokee is 11 and looks about five years old, but that's because it gets to go play in the mud and in the woods and....

But there is the rub. People in this very thread have said they don't want "nazi" HOAs, but they also turn around and ***** about things like cars parked in driveways.
So the real translation to that is they want everyone else to follow the rules they like, but don't want to have to follow rules anyone else comes up with.
