Just find the diet that's right for her - like people, some can't eat shellfish (me), some can't have any dairy products, etc. Like humans have to adapt to their particular system, so do animals. In Albert's case if I would have had just one clue he needed a 'no salt' diet, I would have gladly bought the more expensive food so he'd still be alive and curled up beside me. So just find the food that works with her system and don't give her back to some unknown fate.

Guess rest of campers are still out and about though know Shel his packing (you lucky dog). I'll check back later after I eat AMY lol
Roth, I agree with Joy---you just have to keep trying to find the right diet. Cats do puke alot from what I have heard. Watson has thrown up 3 times since I've had him---all 3 due to riding in cars. Heck the 2nd and 3rd time, he puked right in my hand, so it didn't go all over my sisters car. Pets aren't alway fun and games and good times---there are bad times that go along with it, ie the puking in my hands, the stepping in poo when I got up one morning, the chewing of my dansko work clogs I guess you have to decide if the bad outweighs the good. To me---Watson could puke every single day and I would still keep him. He brings so much joy to my life that it would be a mute issue for me. Please keep trying to find him the correct diet because he obviously loves you. Have you taken him to a vet? If not, then maybe it's time. These pet stores...no offense, but they don't know what the H they are talking about--they are just trying to sell their expensive food!

No...not packing. I cancelled my vacation! I am not sad about it, in fact sort of relieved. I really don't want to go--it's only going to be 60 degrees there!!! Crap--I can stay home and deal with that weather....although we are getting snow on Sat.

As for the potential roommate--one of the reasons I cancelled. She might stay with me, might not. She is talking to one other person who lives closer to the hospital than I do. If that is not satisfactory to her, then she will stay with me. I am going to do a background check on her...well my niece and her boyfriend are going to do it...he's a cop! She is slightly older than me, in mid-50's...working with preemies for many many years. I can tell she is a decent person by the long conversation we had tonight. She started doing travel nursing when her husband of 32 years decided he didn't want to be married any longer. WTF is wrong with these AZZH*LE men???? She has 4 grown sons and 7 grandbabies with another one on the way!!

Anyways...didn't want her coming into my house while I was gone, so I thought the best thing to do was cancel the vacation. If she decides to live with the other person then that is ok....I wasn't really too jazzed about this vacation anyways. NOW if she was interrupting an Austin vacation--that would be a different story.

Now which one of you kids hid my Cuban cigarettes? They were a gift, so turn em over or I'll make the medicine go down alright - and it won't be with no spoon full of suger either.

A good doctor can diognose the problem, then if it's a certain type of issue, like Albert's which was he shouldn't eat food with 'salt', that's when the special animal food comes in. My Rott always got the 'good stuff' cause he was a pure breed. With Albert, it was genetic issue that didn't manifest until he was 3; he was perfectly healthy until then. By the time it 'manifested' itself and diagnosed, it was too late. If diagnosed in time, then it can be treated and a special diet very well will be in order and the animal will be just fine. Again, why I don't eat shellfish - makes me puke my guts up, so consequently I don't eat it.

No...not packing. I cancelled my vacation! I am not sad about it, in fact sort of relieved. I really don't want to go--it's only going to be 60 degrees there!!! Crap--I can stay home and deal with that weather....although we are getting snow on Sat.

Shel, that's a bummer that the weather was going to be so cool - and on the water 60 feels much colder than other places. Though crap, 'cause know you were looking forward to it.

If that is not satisfactory to her, then she will stay with me. I am going to do a background check on her...well my niece and her boyfriend are going to do it...he's a cop! Gotta love having cops in the family LOL my sister used to work for the SO and would run her DD potential boyfriends to make sure they weren't criminals lol

Well, sorry again didn't work out on vacation and sounds like you two would get along (with the background check just to make sure) so hopefully other place doesn't work for her - oh, that didn't sound nice did it? Whoops.

Hi Shel, oh I'm sorry you cancelled the vacation but you know it will be ok staying home with Watsaboo, and sounds like the traveling nurse might be just the ticket..Glad you got to talk to her, she certainly sounds decent, at least maybe not a crazy loon..probably has some interesting stories to tell. Plus NOT going on vacay will save you some $$ instead of spending it. And you can work on Watson's potty training, too.

Roth, I hope you keep trying to find the right food for Sophie..I know it seems like a lot of work but I can tell in your posts how attached you are to her. None of our pets are perfect, most of them have some issue, we just work around it. Other than her tummy problems sounds like a wonderful kitty.

Ok watching the Phillies beat up the Dodgers, top of the 9th, Dodgers better get their act together pretty quickly I will say..

Ok I am heading to bed early I think..sending you all hugs

Barb, about the bread.......It appears that the bread actually rose too high and then collapsed. Can be caused by several different things, one of which is recipe too large. Older bread machines usually had a maximum of a 1.5# loaf, some only a 1#. Check your instruction book and then make sure yours can accomodate that amount. I have a great recipe for 1.5# loaf that I'll put here:

Crusty French Loaf (1.5# loaf for bread machines)

1. Put 1 cup of warm (to the touch....not too hot) water in the bucket.
2. Add 1 tablespoon of sugar
3. Add 2.5 cups of flour (I use a high gluten flour I get from the Amish)
4. Make a little "divot" in the flour and pour in a packet of Rapid Rise Yeast
5. Turn the machine on regular bread cycle with medium to slightly darker crust color
6. After the machine has had a couple minutes to mix the ingredients, lift the lid and sprinkle in 1 teaspoon of salt. Close lid and let finish cycle.

This is a pretty easy straight forward recipe and works really nicely with soups, stews and chili. The 1.5# loaf also works well with older as well as newer machines.

About the snow.........first, let my say YUCKYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!! I moved down here last September and last winter we got snow about 3 times. NOT the reason for me to hassle moving south. But now this morning the paper says that it's supposed to be even colder and snowier this winter! Just another showing of my lousy, crappy luck. DH emailed me from work which is in Altoona, PA. He said it is snowing there. They always get more than we do, but come on people..........it's Oct-frigging-ober!!

I am in contact with an agent that I met here and he is helping me with information. His suggestion is that we offer a buyer's agent incentive, but with a contract date cut-off. He claims we will be amazed how that will pick up showings (it's a shame that you have to bribe agents to do their job!!!). He crunched some numbers for us and after everything is taken off it looks as though we might clear $20K LESS than we hoped for if we use the typical buyer's incentive of 3% and a home warranty (when did it become "normal" to pay the buyer's to buy a house!?!?!?!? We bought houses in 1976 and 1979 and never even thought to do this.). Might not sound like much, but when you are only selling for $165-$170K up front, that is a lot. And that doesn't include any other demands they may make because they don't like the carpet or paint color......GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!

Was supposed to sign Sophie's papers today, but she managed to throw up twice this morning. I had been giving her a little bit of baby food sweet potatoes (saw on a cat website to do this to help with fiber intake) with a few chicken pieces. Well imagine watery sweet potatoes on a beige rug! Then she ate several pieces of dry and immediately threw that up......at least on the tile this time. So we are back at square one again. I called the woman and told her that when she came to bring a cat carrier because I can't do this anymore. Well, we had a talk and she talked me into trying one last time using a raw diet because she thinks Sophie does not tolerate grains well, which there is a lot of in dry food. I wasn't sure because it is expensive unless you can make your own. I went up to the store (holistic pet food store) and talked to a woman there and she wants me to try a higher grade canned food first combined with a probiotic powder added to the food. (Food not too bad, but powder is expensive.....good thing I only use 1/4 tsp each time.) She said that the stool might be soft at first, but should clear up in 3-4 days. She said to try this first because of cost, but she really thinks it will work. She said that some cats can also be sensitive to chicken and fish, so we are trying beef first. I would have thought that chicken or a mild fish like salmon or tilapia would be better, but apparently not. She said once we get her established on the beef and get everything else cleaned out, we can try other flavors to see if they work. I don't think that I would still be willing to try if she wasn't really great on everything else and appears to be very happy here.....and I DO love her. It would break my heart to have to give her up now. She is curled up beside me right now sleeping away. It's rather chilly here today and since our house is built on a slab the floor is colder. I had draped a throw over the loveseat and finally convinced her to come up. She got this look like........wow, it IS softer and warmer up here.........and curled up and went to sleep. But then again, I did "drug" her a bit by putting fresh catnip in her fuzzy toy that has a velcroed pocket for that purpose! Leave it to me, on top of all the other stuff, to get a defective cat!! GGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!

Well, need to go check for the mail........my bright spot in the day.
Oh Roth, thank you for the recipe, I just added it to my recipe file..sounds delicious..I am going to try more bread this weekend..my machine is old, about 16 years old, and yes it's a small pan, maybe a 1#..manual disappeared about 3 moves ago, so guessing...thanks again my friend!

Stoy...what, no 2 hour delay Your dog is beautiful. We had boxers when I was growing up, so I am more than partial to them.

Texas, I hope it all works out with your renting out the room, if your gut tells you that she's a good person (and the background check does as well).

NJ, how's the new car working out? Are you feeling better? How's Mia?

Roth, I hope the new food does the trick for Sophie. Could you get the people who you are adopting her from to pay for a GI series of some sort, if they have those for cats? She sounds very sweet and playful, and like she has really started trusting you.

Lacey, how much snow do you have on the ground?

Hi everyone else.

Haay there, Gals if I walked outside with that umbrella, which I could use now, I would probably end up in S. Fl.! It is just nasty out and we are suppose to be at the job at 9 am., lol dont think so. Temps have dropped and a nasty storm blew threw here around 12:30, still raining and blowing hard. But the next 4 days say NO RAIN-NO CHANCE!!!

Stoy, When was that pix taken?? I saw on the radar the snow coming in up there.

Tambre, Any word yet? Or are you going to open up a furniture store?

Okay here is one for thought today, My ds and I chatted this morning and he read a new article about Global Warming that our prez is gonna "address" that says something about 10 yrs from now we will be in serious dodo. No glaciers forming, no snow ect.... So he laughs and says tell that to the folks getting there first snow this week, that it is just a figment of their imagination-so gals listen to your prez now.....
