My 13 year old nephew came over the weekend & made some mac & cheese on his own. I don't know what he did, I wasn't in the kitchen but it does not taste good. I don't know how he messed up, he must have forgotten put a packet of cheese in it. He made 2 box of mac & cheese. They didn't eat 1/4 of what he cooked, I am sure it was because of the taste. Now I am stuck with bunch of tasteless mac & cheese. I don't know if I can save it & what can I do with it?

Today I mixed some of the leftover mac&cheese with broccoli and chopped chicken for lunch. IT was ok but I mostly picked out the chicken and broccoli & ate it. I also put hot sauce to make it taste better. We like spicy/tomato base food instead of cheese type. I still have a pot at home, any thing I can do or do I need to throw it out.

I am thinking of making mac&cheese ball but if the Mac was tasteless to start off with will the fried balls taste bad too?. I don't want to put too much effort & find it to not be good. I also considered soaking the mac under hot water to wash off the taste and make something new like baked ziti?

Is it worth trying to fix this or should this go to dumpster

Adding salt might help.

Only thing I can think of is dumpster, or put it in a pot with chunks of Velveeta and let that melt and stir it all together. I wouldn't give it to the dog - he (or she) didn't do anything wrong!

Why beat a dead horse? It's just mac & cheese, and it was lousy to start.

Toss it in the woods for animals to eat and make a fresh batch, this time taking care of the cheese used, etc.

Mix it with some chopped tomato and chopped bacon. Pour into a casserole dish….tip with cheese and bake until hot and cheese is melted.

Make it like this
1 pound cooked elbows
1 block cream cheese
3 Tbsp. Butter
2 cups shredded white cheddar or yellow
1 cup milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese.
2 Tbsp. flour
salt and pepper to taste

Melt the butter in a large skillet, add all of the above except the macaroni. Mix until thick and creamy, add elbows mix well. Can be baked but I find it dries it out.

If it was a bargain brand, all the seasoning is is salt and orange food color. It's just not good.

If a kid made it, I would guess that he didn't drain the noodles well enough. I'd feed it to my dogs, but if you want to salvage it, make a bechamel sauce and melt some good strong aged cheddar into the sauce and add that to the noodles you already have. Then add some melted butter.

Most of the flavor in those boxed mac and cheese things comes from a ton of butter. Seriously, a whole cube of butter for a couple of servings is way over the top, but that's what you put into it.

I am from Long Island NY. This was similar to how my grandmother made it. Maybe more cream. It was crispy and never dried out. Even when she baked it. Just got brown and bubbly.

Leave the mac and cheese in the fridge uncovered for 3 days (that will dry it out). Use 1/2 cup milk warmed with a chicken bullion cube to refresh the mac and cheese. Add salt and pepper and use as you like. Or, tossing to the animals is fine too. :-)
