Honestly as a guy, all things being equal, if I were 40 I hardly think that I'd notice a 40 year old woman, especially when you have women who are substantially younger, more attractive who are just as mature. As a single guy in that age looking, I'd probably put my attention on women between say 33-and 38 if I had to focus on age.

Look, I am not young; I am in my early 40s. I don't want to go out with someone who's 59, 60, 65+ for the same reason that I would never go out with a guy who's 20. Or even 30. The age difference is just too great. More than 20 years ... that's a generation gap.

I used to think that by the time guys reached their 40s, they'd be more realistic. But it never ends. I didn't want to date a 40-year-old guy when I was 20, and I don't want to date a 60-year-old when I'm 40. Insult to injury, I inherited the "youth" gene from my mom, so I easily pass for 30. Some of these guys would look like my grandfather. Four years younger, four years older. That's what I would prefer, and that's yet another reason I'm not on Match anymore.

What is there to understand about this?

Why do men do this? Why can't they be happy with someone their own age?

Oh man, this is SO true. I also look much younger than my 43 years. I am dating a man who is 54, but that's just 11 years, not a biggie to me now. But when I was on there, some days I would only get messages from men over 60.
I do know that the majority of men our age are still married...

They pass through the filter for some reason. I have never been able to keep that from happening...

they will always want the younger women, the younger they can get them the better b/c it boosts their ego and they feel they can run all over some really young girl. Most grown women wouldn't allow it.

Online dating is life amplified.

Older men want to date younger women in real life so when they are able to hide behind a username picture and vague description, all bets are off. Same goes for everyone else. Anyone can hide anything. Put a pic up of yourself from 10 years ago, 50lbs ago, 3 kids ago and all of a sudden you have a whole other dating disaster on your hands.

I stay away from online dating like the plague. I'm more of a what you see is what you get kind of girl.

I remember at 15, losing my hot girlfriend to some older guy.

i remember being a freshman in college, and having the older guys swooping in and gaming all the available women.

even now, at 28, girls my age are courted by older, wealthier guys. That's just the way it is.

So why should all that magically stop, at age 40, 50, 60, etc.? Older men - Younger women pairings are natural.

Last night I got a message from possibly the most wonderful 43 year old I have ever seen.

The crocodile is just caught like a deer in the headlights. Not sure what to do. Any man passing this item untouched is a certified IDIOT. Well, I'm a crocodile.

It's still a hard life.

I don't know , my 80-something old great uncle used to hit on younger women all the time. His line was, " Honey, you got some purty teeeeth." He was hitting on the nurses just before he died.
