My boyfriend and I were watching a show the other day, and in it a bunch of single women were hitting the town for a night out. We got to talking and he said they were clearly getting all dressed up to see if they could meet a man. I told him that’s not always the case – sometimes women like to dress up and go out for a girls night of dancing, drinking and fun. They don’t have to necessarily be “on the prowl” to enjoy a fun night out with girlfriends. If they happen to meet a cute man, great. The night can be even more fun! If they don’t, that’s just fine too.
He refused to accept this and is convinced all single women go out on the town all dressed up for one reason and one reason only – to pick up men.
I am interested to see what the people of CD make of this?

I don't think single women get all dressed up to go and dance with women, unless they are lesbians. I think they get dressed up and go out to have fun with men. Not just to pick up a man, but to have fun with men, and usually at the man's expense. And if they make a connection, so much the better. But, in the end, if they are single, they go out to meet men. I'm not saying women don't go out just to have a night out with the girls, but it depends on if the woman/girls are single or married.

Well obviously some are, some aren't...I think men are accused of doing this far more than women, and a large proportion of men who hit the town just want to have fun. I do think a large part of the whole point of clubbing etc is to hook up with guys/gals; most who are on the prowl aren't looking for anything more than a quick lay.

Some girls these days dance with other girls, grind up on them as if they are strippers/ lesbians, but that's mainly for show and because they are drunk.

I think he may be referring to when women start dancing suggestively with each other or make out with each other, mainly to show off. Seems to be a post 2000 trend that's spread like wildfire.

When i was single my friends and i went out because we enjoyed it...and very rarely didn't we accept guys invitations to go home with them.

Same here! I go out all the time with my girlfriends who are all in relationships.
