If a guy's (attempting to) start(ing) a new relationship on the wrong foot, being all stingy, his resentment is written all over his face and shows how much of a cheapskate tight wad he is, no lady (or man) will find that attractive in any way shape or form (unless they have zero self-respect for themselves).
It's the vibe you bring, and people pick up on that quickly.

I've always paid, and have done so willingly, so this is not a reflection on my opinions.
But IMO it's whoever does the asking. Sure it's skewed towards the men that do the overwhelming majority of the asking, but that doesn't mean the girl shouldn't at least offer up something in return. And no, that doesn't mean she should give up her damn vagina, i'm saying she should at least make an attempt to cover her half(I said no every time, and to save her money), or she can offer to pay the tip, or offer to buy dessert later in the evening.
It's really not that critical, and I think more dates are going dutch today than they have in the past. CD posters make mountains out of mole-hills.
I'm not single. But if I was single and a woman asked me out and she expects me to pay, I will think she is self-centered user and she will get the boot fast.
If the man asks, he should pay. If the woman asks, she should pay.
