So, he's not tipping but dropping change with Santa while walking? Hopefully his date enjoys his company. It wouldn't be my cup of tea.
It happens. "Generosity" doesn't always operate on the same tandem. I personally for example have donations taken out of personal account monthly, but I hesitate to "give" money away on the streets. I have my reasons for doing one and not the other.

I am opposite. I don't trust any charity but I happily buy a homeless guy a beer or a mickey.
A waitress walks into the back kitchen and picks up a plate of food and delivers it to the table. That sounds like so much work. I'm laughing. I would much rather tip a mechanic who fixed my car or a construction worker who builds homes for me to live in.

Depends on the charity. I'm extremely picky for the same reason. Once a homeless guy said he needed money to eat, instead I offered to walk him to a fast food joint to buy him anything he wanted on the menu. He declined and we parted ways.

But a mechanic or a construction worker are paid in full by their employers. Most waiters are paid a reduced hourly wage with the assumption that the rest of their pay will be made up in tips.
