You're making a lot of assumptions here. Money isn't necessarily involved from the first date, second date or third date. But if the guy wants to treat the woman to a dinner, he offers that. (The woman can then say she prefers to pay her own way.) I've paid the expenses for both on an outing on the first date, if I choose the activity , issue the invitation and thereby make the first move. No one's forcing you to take a woman to dinner, it's your decision. You could just as well invite her to join you for browsing books at a bookstore and to hear a book reading. If she has a museum membership, for example, she could reciprocate by inviting you for an afternoon at the museum, as her guest. There's no set formula for the way things go in the dating process. Everything depends on the two individuals involved, how they relate to each other, their own individual preferences, etc. These things can't be reduced to simplistic formulas. If you've been spending a lot of money on first dates with women, you only have yourself to blame. Nobody held a gun to your head.
