Nerd is so 80s. What used to be a definition has now fallen off the planet. Nerds today are a social mix. I know of some real self proclaimed rednecks that have been engineers, programmers, designers, etc. Today's "nerds" need a new classification. There are two new groups of nerds. Slightly intelligent, well off kids that think the title is a useful intro to today's social media and then the "actual" Hawkins types that don't fit into social gatherings but spend all day and night watching how far a planet shifts in a date/time stamp period.

Stephen Hawking isn't a "nerd" by your classification as he is far from a social misfit. The smartest people generally don't have any problems in social situations...interacting with others is just as important, intellectually, as anything else.

So true about The Hawk. Anybody see him strutting his stuff (ok, rolling his stuff) in the Para-Olympics opening ceremony? Definitely doesn't hole up at the laboratory pondering equations and looking through the telescope all the time.

No, but I can totally imagine him completely forgetting what time it is and that he promised someone he'd meet them for dinner because he got caught up in something

You do raise a good point. He adapted in his career but that is not the norm. I don't think misfit is a good term for people that value things like he and others do. I think brainiacs are more valuable to society than NFL players, etc.

I'm not so sure. Many NFL players, including Vince Young, correctly predicted the eventual discovery of the Higg's Boson super-particle. Hawkins misplaced the c-squared with c-cubed and incorrectly argued against its existence. What a dumb-a*s!
how to hit on girls at Comic-Con? that would be helpful
