Learning to love someone would most likely mean downgrading my standards. So no.

Don't kid yourself, TR. While not arranged, Italians, Greeks, Middle Easterners, and Latinos (Central and South Americans) from those places, but now living here, STRONGLY SUGGEST mates based on who they want to see married off. If there are no consequences to being undiplomatic, my answer is "It's my third leg. Not yours." They (ladies) normally drop their jaws, but I've made my point, and most know never to go there again.

Interesting.

Then, why the hell does these cultures (where arranged marriage is common) have a much lower rate of divorce? If y'all don't believe me, google it.

BTW, I think Ayn Rand is a ****ing hypocrite. So much talk about individualism and about how great an Anarco-Capitalistic society would be...when later in life she used Medicare benefits.

Absolutely. When I met my husband we were just friends. He wanted to date, I didn't. After truly getting to know him, I fell in love. It took awhile, me getting to know him and fell deeply in love.

I have always done the opposite, either there was spark or not, I never tried to go beyond that. So happy I did!

I still think friends first works.

Yes. It's possible. My friend's parents are Muslim and had an arranged marriage. Forty something years later it's obvious they are in love. Last time I was at their house her mom asked me to go into her bedroom and get something for her and I noticed a sexy nighty strewn on the floor. (they are in their 60s at this point). When we were growing up they were always very sweet and affectionate toward each other when I would visit.

I have a friend from India whose parents didn't meet until the day before they married and they've been happily married for many years. According to my friend, they gradually fell in love and stayed in love. She's not interested in an arranged marriage, however, and they are understanding.
