Quote:
After that honeymoon phase men tend to show their love by just doing the duty of going through the business of life without complaint... taking out the trash, scooping the litter box, mundane things that you don't equate to "love". He's showing you his love and commitment by continuing to be a contributing functional half of your duet, rather than going off to do whatever (or whomever) it is he sometimes wishes he could. It's not the pretty answer, but it's the truth of life.

The same thing can be said about women. Men and women are vastly different, yet frighteningly similar. We are all human - just wired differently.
It all comes down to the couple's willingness to make the relationship work. Not one person, but BOTH people. Relationships need tending like a garden. You can't just plant the seed and walk away, expecting something wonderful. Everything in life worth doing takes effort. Some folks are just plain lazy.
It also takes communication. Don't tell your SO what you think they want to hear. I know from experience that being told what he thought I wanted to hear put me on a different page - which caused me to want one thing and filled him with resentment.
Be honest and tell them how you are feeling, what you are thinking and what you would like for your future.
Be open to compromise. If you don't like compromise, you probably shouldn't BE in a relationship. It's all about sharing. One-sided sharing is called "taking".
