This thread is dedicated to all the liars, cheats, scum and married guys chasing women etc. that inhabit on-line dating and make life so difficult not just for the women but for the men.
Me personally, *I love*, (yeah that broke your sarcasm meter) the fact that a widower that would never hurt a woman, coming off a good 13 year marriage, raising 2 kids, having a nice home and extremely healthy income...gets to show up to meet dates that are fearful for their safety, that he is really married or a general pervert. Yeah, there is some REAL romance going on in those situations....sweet jesus they look ready to bolt from moment one. What the heck is wrong with people?
I swear I'd help beat the crap out of the guy if it would help to remove any of the scar tissue my dates seem to come draped in anymore.

Ugh, just about ready to remove my profile.
You mean you haven't been contacted by a woman from Nigeria who wants you to send her money?
I just thought of something that might be helpful. When I go out on dates with people that I meet IRL for the first time, I have a friend that I am in contact with. I call it a check in and I tell my friend where I am at. When I'm leaving etc.
I was introduced to this procedure by a date and he insisted that I use his phone at least once. Every date is in line with that. There are never any objections and they completely understand why. What this does is reduce tensions, for me. Maybe you could introduce that in the future?
...many women are wary from past relationships too. I know my first marriage was a disaster and I was especially leery of making another big mistake. You know the saying, older and wiser. Anybody who has been burned before is looking to not get burned again. Plenty of guys are like that too. You are one of the rare few who are single again due to an unfortunate quirk of mother nature, not a SO who turned out to be a jerk. Please be patient, many of us just want what you've already had.
Don't try too hard. Love will find you when you least expect it. That is what happened to me. I met someone when I was seeking to talk to someone for career advice. Career advice turned into a great friendship. A great friendship turned into a great attraction and now a great marriage. It can happen.
The older we get, the more baggage we have, unfortunately. And the reality is that there are many people misrepresenting themselves online. The trick is to know how to weed out the players, married guys, etc. without having your heart broken first. A lot of these guys know how to lie very well. "I'm separated from my wife", they say, and you're unaware that he means right this minute he's separated from her, as she has gone grocery shopping, etc. MG, please don't give up entirely. Dating is never easy, and it's more of a challenge these days. I'm sorry.
