These days women put men into categories that best serves their purpose:
If you are rich: You are the one she is going to marry and make you have her kids.
If you are sexy: You are the one she will have passionate NSA sex with.
If you are nice: You are the one she is going to make a, "friend"
Then again there are millions of women out there with varying degrees of standards. Just because one female thinks you are, "ugly" doesn't mean every female does! Some women will bang just about anyone if they can get a free lunch or some sort of benefit (even imagined).
The ultimate thing a man can do is say no to a woman especially if she is putting him in a category he does not want to be.

I remember going on a date once. The guy invited me out for dinner. I met him at the restaurant and we had a lovely time. The food was wonderful and we were chatting away. Suddenly the bill arrived. He picked it up, looked at it, and said, "So do you want to just split this?" My jaw dropped. He looked at me and said, "Oh, I'll just pay for it." But it was too late. All the romance was gone.

I know what you mean. But I think a lot of guys have been bamboozled by the womenslibbers and feel like they are insulting a woman if they don't make everything "equal", so it's a damned-if-they-do-damned-if-they-don't thing.
They have to stop listening to the equalizers. Some of us like a dominant male. And I mean dominant, not a bully or a misogynist.
Even better, the average looking to mid guy. They try harder, and are more caring. The really good looking ones are high maintenance.
