How many people esp between the ages of 18-25 or so, rush into marriage. Classic example of a girl I know only 21 and married someone after only knowing him 2 months. Madly in love probably, but still looking as an outsider relationship to me looks likely it won't last long term.
I've never understood it, why people rush into it.

Many girls are insecure at that age and have no idea who they are and what they like. They don't really know themselves fully and are so innocent, they believe in a fantasy but don't realize it's a fantasy. They think this is the be all and end all of existence. It's sad that they don't realize or listen that life is to learn and have fun and acquiring relationship skills before they enter into something they cannot fully understand without some life experience behind them.

Parents need to do a better job of showing their daughters that life isn't like Cinderella and Prince Charming.

Afraid I'd disagree. The people that meld the best together often meet very young as they can grow into each other.

And you end up with just as many people divorcing and the like that are older, as relationship experience doesn't necessarily mean the people in them that failed actually learn much of jack from it. Often times it just means another notch in the ongoing series.

Well he proposed to her. So don't make it all one sided now.

I guess the point is *why*? If things are going great and you love them...there shouldn't be a rush.

Hopefully they will hold off on kids.

I'm afraid the statistics don't back your idealized notion.

Well the amount of people I know that have married between those ages....and now 4-10 years later ended in divorce or seperation is pretty damn high. Higher than the stats for marriage at any age (not just just those ages). Then I look at the successful marriages I know and in nearly all of them....the people got to know each other over the long term eg 2 years or more before tying the knot.
Its just common sense.

I've never understood it, why people rush into it.
because, unknowingly parents & society are still raising their children to believe that you must be married to be successful....and a lot of mother's still tell their daughters, get married and have someone take care of you...and a lot of mother's baby their sons, wait on them hand and foot, so the son's go out looking for a mama

Your friend is in love with lust...and when people start openly discussing sex and the real issues about it...maybe that will also help. but a lot of children are raised to believe...."oh my God, you can't have sex until your married" and if you have sex, then you are obligated to stay with that person forever?" Sheeesh...when will people come out of the stone age?

sex is a human want, desire and need in some cases to feel loved or to give love...people are all screwed up. we as human beings should be much further along intellectually...but we pass our beliefs down to our children and by the time we're 60 it's to late, our children have already become us....and it's a vicious circle.

I also blame the leaders of our country for not educating our children better along this level....and us parents for being so unaware...so living in our very own protective bubbles away from the rest of the world....so many of us don't even know what's really going on out there????? sorry for the rant, it just makes me sick...so now your friend will probably have children before they break up and the children will grow up with so many problems because they don't feel loved by both parents...and they won't have the parental supervision they need, b/c when we marry we're babies ourselves, and pop out little kids right away, b/c society tells us, it's what we should do.

Perhaps idealized, but statistics don't put into account those that DON'T marry, or marry right away.

I only find them to be a decent gauge every know and again, and I never take them as factual as they're always skewed.
