I usually make it my business to know exactly what I am after, and to have the only time I need help be when I need an employees help getting the product I am after (in the back, locked up, etc.)

Once, when a cashier asked me that question, I answered her by saying 'terrible'
She simply said: 'oh..okay, well..thankyou for shoppping with us'

She wasn't quite prepared to hear anything but the usual 'fine, thankyou"

I had a clerk one time ask me how I was and I asked if she had 20 yrs?

Then I've had clerks say absolutely nothing other than what I owed.

Sometimes when they ask me how I am etc I just ignore them.
