I looked when I moved but many of the groups seemed closed, which I thought was kinda weird.

I joined singles groups as well and actually got the impression they are purely for socializing - with other singles - not for finding dates. Because isn't it fun to socialize with the opposite sex sometimes with no intention of dating or worrying about any of the dating/sex drama?

Has anyone had any experience going to a group from meetup.com? The closest I've come to meeting anyone from offline was when I posted an add on a community website searching for a language teacher in high school. Should I just keep searching for a sailing school instead?

Thoughts?

Always wear your PFD Hon. I know folks who almost drowned cuz they didn't wear a Life Vest...

I don't sail, i do a lot of fishin' from my boats. Mostly C&R (catch & release).

I actually own my own - a really cute purple one Does that increase my sex appeal with the boating crowd?

Just a note: I'm looking to learn how to sail, not make friends. Although, naturally, I am open to friendships lol. It is just not my main purpose. I think I'm going to check it out and see what happens.

To the OP I think you should try it. I have met peeps from online and my only advice to you is go with a friend. If they are weirdos then you can leave together or have each others back.
