I wasn't very impressed with the groups I had joined on Meetup. They were both singles groups but no one acted interested in trying to date anyone. They were just there purely for socializing.
I joined singles groups as well and actually got the impression they are purely for socializing - with other singles - not for finding dates. Because isn't it fun to socialize with the opposite sex sometimes with no intention of dating or worrying about any of the dating/sex drama?
I've always been interested in learning how to sail and I believe this year will be the year I finally chase the curiosity bug. I found a rather large sailing enthusiasts group on meetup.com and from their description they seem eager to teach wide-eyed newbies like yours truly. Has anyone had any experience going to a group from meetup.com? The closest I've come to meeting anyone from offline was when I posted an add on a community website searching for a language teacher in high school. Should I just keep searching for a sailing school instead?
Thoughts?
Always wear your PFD Hon. I know folks who almost drowned cuz they didn't wear a Life Vest...
I don't sail, i do a lot of fishin' from my boats. Mostly C&R (catch & release).
Just a note: I'm looking to learn how to sail, not make friends. Although, naturally, I am open to friendships lol. It is just not my main purpose. I think I'm going to check it out and see what happens.

It's a lot of fun and anything on the water rates high in the whole outdoor experience lifestyle. Rock on!!
To the OP I think you should try it. I have met peeps from online and my only advice to you is go with a friend. If they are weirdos then you can leave together or have each others back.
