Like we all get our half hour of fame (still waiting for mine) we all get our century of world domination.

It is easy to look on the gloomy side, such as China taking over from America as self - appointed financial bully and global police (maybe not so bad if they just get rid of one - party Nazi government and admit democracy along with the capitalism they have clearly embraced), but a look at how things used to be only a hundred years ago and one sees that things actually have got better. Really.

Especially for women who wanted to vote and blacks who wanted to be treated as equal. You wouldn't have to back that up too much further to include witches who wanted to escape death by torture and burning.

Who has implied that things aren't better? It's the end which will count and mankind does not have the courage or the will to address the problems which will ultimately take him down. The upper 2% of our population controls everything and during the last 10 years the problems have doubled down. There is no middle class and the wealthy and elite are responsible for whatever happens to the rest of us...to me that is a very bad set of circumstances.

It was 'sadly' in the OP, as though our continued 'evolution' (if that is actually what it is) is something to be regretted.

Actually pretty much all of it.

The fact that, as you say, "a few hundred years ago, the weak died and only the strong and cunning survived" would be evidence that evolution instead of halting actually continued as it had since the dawn of man.

The fact that "sophisticated diagnostic systems, continuous research discovering new medicines, infant heart surgery, thousands of ways to keep the infirm alive long enough to reproduce" is hardly establishes any predictor of how humans would have evolved without them.

The mentally impaired used to be locked away and now many idiots marry and reproduce.
That is just Nazi inspired genetic nonsense. The fact that those affected by genetic "defects" weren't able to produce is just pure nonsense. Just because those who were effected by the "defect" weren't able to reproduce, and I would even challenge your assertion that they were "locked away to begin with, didn't eradicate the presence of those same genes in other members of their families.

It seems that we learned nothing from the eskimos who used to place those who could not fend for themselves on the edge of a thawing piece of ice and let them drift away and freeze to death.
First of all the Eskimos represent such a small minority of the human family as to ludicrous. Other societies never practiced such eugenics so it is pointless to argue that this was effective across all humans. Further, genetic defects that would cause the Eskimos to practice such eugenics (if that was indeed the case) only speaks to "defects" applicable to a society living on the margins of human survival. Those who could not "fend" for themselves in a primitive society speaks little about "defects" in individuals who despite certain disabilities can and do contribute tremendously to human survival and progress, see Steven Hawkins.

Besides the weak surviving long enough to reproduce the elderly will finally bankrupt the world's economy by living 50 years beyond their period of usefullness.
What a bizarre statement amongst a number of bizarre statements. What determines "usefullness"? Just because our primitive societies can't seem to figure out productive activities and usefulness for the elderly is certainly not an argument for your social darwinistic advocacy for eugenics.

The mentally impaired used to be locked away and now many idiots marry and reproduce. It seems that we learned nothing from the eskimos who used to place those who could not fend for themselves on the edge of a thawing piece of ice and let them drift away and freeze to death.

Now medical science believes it should continue to keep people ninety years old alive with any kind of dramatic procedure while incarcerating those who offer assisted suicide. Besides the weak surviving long enough to reproduce the elderly will finally bankrupt the world's economy by living 50 years beyond their period of usefullness.

Evolution is alive and well.
I know! Those worthless impaired, old (what was YOUR age again? Late 70s I recall. UH Oh!), non contributory parasites!!!! Yeaaaaaaaah!...We should just put them on an iceberg, or drop them off in the middle of the desert, so they don't "burden" the rest of us!

What REALLY surprises me, is that in the course of those "pearls of wisdom" you couldn't figure out how to fit in a mention of defecation, and waste, and rectums (and the proximity to reproductive parts) that you are so fixated on, and have posted about dozens of times. Of course, the fact that humans are ONLY intellectually/mentally superior to all other species...and not physically superior as well...is sure evidence of the nonexistence of a Creator God. I mean, after all...if there really IS a God...we'd know that for SURE by us being designed not to ever have to take a dump...and since we still have to: that's PROOF there is no God. Duuuuuuuhhhhh...how come no one else ever thought of that? Weeeeeeeell, it would figure that anyone that could contemplate something so deep as THAT...could then come up with this latest musing.

They say that exposure to radiation will mess you up in all kinds of ways!...hmmmmmmmmm?

Sheesh, The man is addressing a real problem, and all you have to offer are insults and sarcasm?

The human race is in fact getting weaker every generation mainly because of advances in medical science...I'm not saying that we should euthanize the infirm or mentally handicapped, but the fact remains...What is your solution, or do you just not think of the future? If the population continues to grow at the rate it is today, there will soon be a massive die off of people. I was born in 1940, the population of the earth then was 2.3 billion. Today it is almost 7 billion, and projected to reach 9.4 billion by 2050...You can trivialize it, but it is a real problem..

Oh yeah!

And the solution to the "real problem": "...the eskimos who used to place those who could not fend for themselves on the edge of a thawing piece of ice and let them drift away and freeze to death." How nice!

Better watch out sans...you are getting "up there" too. Pretty soon you won't be "useful" any more. But that's ok...hopefully we will have "learned" enough by then to just "ace" you. Tell ya what...we'll let YOU chose the ice float/tundra, or the desert...to be dropped off on/in to die.

My solution? The BEST solution, of course...LOVE EACH OTHER. There is PLENTY for all...many times over. We just need to learn to love each other...and we'll be fine. And that would preclude having a bunch of kids we can't take care of. We need a plan...but NOT the one proposed...that was deserving of all the negative comments it got. Not that I'm surprised YOU didn't see it that way.

There is plenty for all?...You must live under a rock. Did you know? In 2008, nearly 9 million children died before they reached their fifth birthday. One third of these deaths are due directly or indirectly to hunger and malnutrition. The world is facing a hunger crisis unlike anything it has seen in more than 50 years. 925 million people are hungry.

Probably should stop using corn to make fuel, and make it into food.

All this lovin' each other is why there are too many people. But seriously, the overpopulation problem is real. We might be able to (for now) have enough food to go around if everyone agreed to eat the same very dull and uninteresting food (no meat) . But that's not going to happen. We've been fruitful and been multiplying long enough. Maybe we should just add rather than multiply.
