This question is obviously for people who believe in "life after death." My personal belief is in reincarnation.

I am looking forward to death, IF it means I cannot see what is going on down here on Earth.

Does anyone know of any religious texts that speak of this issue?

If I have to know what is going on down here, I am going to be seriously ticked off.

No. I don't believe in any sort of afterlife, so obviously not. When I was a Christian, my answer to your question still would have been no, dead people can't see anything on Earth. There's nothing in the Bible that says they can.

I still long for eternal life, even though I am an atheist. I hope cryonics works, because the thought of eternal nonexistence really depresses me. It's better than hell, but I still prefer life to death.

Sometimes people call on dead relatives, or believe that dead relatives are now angels who can help them out . . . that would indicate that once you have crossed over into another realm, you might still be able to see what is going on down here.

Sorry, but belief by itself doesn't make anything possible...I believe that death is final.

Personally, at this stage of life, I don't care what happens to the Earth or on the Earth once I have departed.

As to "the dead" passing on knowledge and such, if time is not absolutely linear, then it would be possible for me in this life to be talking to both those who passed before me and those still far off in the future.

Death should be a doorway that leads out of "time." The only thing I can liken it to is a scientist trying to pinpoint the exact spatial place a particular electron is occupying around the nucleus of an atom. Once a "picture" is made of the location, the electron is no longer there.

A soul, if you will, on the other side of this veil of tears trying to see what is happening on the Earth would be like trying to find the exact position of the electron at a given moment.

Again, for me, not only would this exercise be akin to trying to teach a pig to sing, it seems to me that I would be more inclined to pursue other activities more worthwhile my [eternal] "time."

I don't really understand your theory, but I like it!

I have read that time is an illusion and it is "all happening at once," which I also don't understand.

A lot of people contact their dead relatives through mediums and such . . . I always wondered how they were able to do this if the people had reincarnated and weren't dead anymore AND I also wondered if the dead people who were just hanging around on some other plane might be acting as "angels" or guides and if so, if they could see the people on Earth.

To me, it would be horrible to see the people I love doing dumb things - that is one of my greatest fears.

Look at it this way: once you're dead, you won't have to worry about being ticked off about anything.

As to your question, Yes, the Baha'i texts do address this, I can't remember just which text it is, I think it is "Gleanings from the writings of Baha'u'allah" or "The Book of Certitude" not really sure of which one.
