PRIMARY school children think they will "burn in hell" and are tormented by gruesome images of Jesus on the Cross after having religious instruction classes, parents say.

Dozens of Queensland families have complained about the public school classes to Macquarie University researcher Dr Catherine Byrne.

One parent said their six-year-old child was shown “graphic and violent crucifixion material”.

“(He) suffered nightmares and anxiety about death for 10 months – he believed everything he was being told – including that he would burn in hell,” they said.

Another parent said they had tried to withdraw their child from religious instruction but their seven-year-old daughter kept being put back in. After learning about atrocities in the Bible, they say their daughter was told “the Jews had it coming to them”.

Another parent said the child of the religious instruction teacher told their son he would burn in hell before stabbing him with a pencil.

Scare them senseless at an early age and religion will have a their mind imprisoned by irrational fear for life. The success story of religions.

I'll let the atheist sector have at it over the rest of the article. One sentence caught my eye.

Why in Blue Blazes isn't that teacher in jail?

That's kind of the point. You should fear hell. It's a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of an angry God. As for the other stuff about the anti-Semitism? That's wrong and someone needs to lose their job if that's true.

that god is a sick psychopathic monster and teaching children psychopathy is child abuse. hell is invented by the church to keep people docile and anybody who don't believe are burned at the stake.

Fear mongering has filled churches, collection plates and evangelists' pockets for decades. It's a proven tactic for rounding up sheep for the clergy wolves.

What surprises me is that it's being taught in a public school. That's bizarre.

And yeah, the pencil-stabber should be arrested.

Can anyone imagine the outrage if it had been a non-Christian faith being taught. If a person does not want a faith other than their own taught in Public schools they need to accept the fact they can not allow their own to be taught.

No.....that God is so kind and gracious that he will save a wretched group of sinners despite the fact that we sin against him willfully time and time again. He's that good.

And yes---telling kids they will go to hell if they don't have a mediator between them and an angry God is a good thing. Next thing you know, you'll probably be telling me that we shouldn't tell cancer patients they'll die if they don't get treatment because it might scare them.

Well I live in Australia and I don't live in Queensland yet the schooling here is yes there is religious classes once a week for a hour or two hours yet children have the free choice of going to it or not. However of course students are also compelled by their parents to attend a religious class.
