On the bare basics of the story, the school had absolutely no right to suspend him. What is not clear (to me at least) is how much of a disturbance he made in the process. That may be a different matter entirely.
Isaiah carried the torn Bible in his hand the remainder of the day without any disruption. He continued to carry the same Bible on Tuesday without any resulting disruption. However, when Isaiah brought the same book to school on Wednesday, also without any resulting disruption, the assistant principal called Isaiah into his office and immediately began to reprimand him. He asked Isaiah, "how would Muslims feel if a student was tearing up the Qur-an?" and then told him he was suspended. He then demanded Isaiah to give him the book. Isaiah said no, informing Serviente that he did not tear the Bible since being told on Monday that he could not do so. The assistant principal clarified that Isaiah was suspended for merely carrying a ripped Bible at school.
So 3 days pass with no disruption before he was suspended.
What a jackass. So its fine to carry a bible, but not a ripped one. And are they going to start checking every holy book that someone decides to carry around and looked for personal modifications?
Globally, laws are not derived from the bible or else we would globally have stoning for adulterers and stuff already mentioned across all cultures. In Africa, it is pretty clear to us that live here, adultery amongst the black folk (doing the deed while married) is not taboo neither is homosexuality. The mere fact they exist across all cultures should be indicative that it is a natural occurring thing even though not considered the "norm" of society.
This also begs the question of why since we have had all these "laws" the "problem" (as you see it) did not go away. Seems even Jesus' reset on sinful man was a huge failure as many are in fact born into christian families.
If you are married, I am sure it was not "just for the sex" (or was it?)
I'm not sure anyone here is suggesting we legislate based on OT Mosaic Law.
Are you saying that you have no control of your urges? When you see an attractive person you just jump on them like a dog in heat?
You can choose your actions, but not your attractions. I can choose to have sex with men, but I will never be able to choose to be attracted to men.
Look at it this way. I love strawberries, and don't like liver. By choosing to eat strawberries over liver, I'm not really making a choice because I wouldn't have chosen to eat liver anyways.
Can you choose to be attracted to men the same way you are attracted to women?

*I'm in love with, and cohabiting with a Jewish woman. Gimme a bit of slack here.
