Oh, where is the righteousness?

There are just too many comments that can be made about this.

Poseidon was annoyed at the blasphemy occurring on his doorstep.

(You're right, a thousand lines come to mind. But I do sympathize with the guy's family and friends.)

I agree that I sympathize with his family, and should have said that right away.

Other than that, there is sooooo much irony here, one doesn't know where to begin.

What an awful thing.

I suspect they weren't familiar with the power, and cold temperature, of the water there. Breaking waves are a tremendously powerful force and every once in a while someone is knocked over and pulled further out by the rip currents. It's sad whenever it occurs.

Yeah, it's awful. So is someone baptizing people in water so cold that they are at risk of hypothermia, even absent the risk of waves. I hope that everyone has adequately proven their dedication to god now.

Vizio, you got to admit that the hands of any god that was suppose to be present didn't exactly look out for that god's flock of sheep, did he?

People do crazy stuff in the name of religion.

The real question here is why would God take, or allow to be taken, someone who was in the very act of bringing Him a soul? Examples such as this occur regularly, and are consistently ignored by the faithful. One of the most obvious examples occurred in 1994. In 1994 a tornado hit the Goshen Alabama Methodist Church during Sunday service, causing the walls of the church to collapse. Twenty people died including six children. Why would God allow the deaths of those in His own house of worship, including the most innocent among them, who were there in the very act of worshiping him, when all He had to do was to prevent the walls from collapsing? The problem is that when it is actually put to the test, make believe is invariably unaffected by the harsh realities of real life. If a wall falls on you, or a mad man shoot you in the head (Sandy Hook Elementary School), make believe does not serve as protection. Even for innocent children. Because in real life what we actually observe is that when the chips are down and faith is confronted by reality, reality will ALWAYS win out. When the chips are down and a Supreme Being would really REALLY come in handy God, invisible unknowable proclaimed and presumed to exist God, will invariably act in exactly the same manner as a God who isn't actually there. A God who refuses to act even in the face of the ultimate crisis of life and death for the most innocent of His followers is a God who corresponds in every way to A GOD WHO NEVER EXISTED TO BEGIN WITH! This is as close to an empirical test for the actual existence of God as one might reasonably hope for. And in these sorts of make or break tests, the result for the question "does God exist," invariably corresponds in every way to a negative finding.

Although the faith that I follow does not practice baptism, similar type things have happened during Hajj.

It is not a reflection on God(swt) our response to a tragedy is a reflection on us.
